Hello all!

I'd like to ask for a few suggestions for a simple 'point and shoot' camera. I'm not much of picture taker and would need something relatively user friendly (too many bell's and whistles make my brain hurt, lol). The last digital camera I bought was a 7 mp Kodak Eashyshare many years ago... obviously there are camera's out there with a much better resolution.

Nothing big and chunky, and definitely not too many buttons...LOL. Just something that will take decent photos when I take my son to WDW for his 17th b-day :)

appreciate any feedback!

preferably under $200 would be nice (single mom deal and all). doesn't need to be fancy :)

If you have a newer high quality smart phone, the camera is, in some ways, better than a budget point and shoot. (It is already a pretty good camera, easy to use, with built-in wifi, high definition LCD, touch screen, in-camera photo editing abilities, etc, etc.. you won't find a feature set like that in any sub-$200 point and shoot.) The advantage of a budget stand-alone-point and shoot is to be able to get some optical zoom.

hmmm... good to know! Maybe I'm better off using my son's Android Galaxy?

I agree with Smartphones being better in many cases than some point and shoot cameras. If that's not an option though, I like the Nikon Coolpix s9700, its user friendly ,takes nice photos and easy to use. I gave one to my Mom (whose 84 and WILL NOT carry a smartphone) and she loves it.

I'm with Pete on this one, you can't really go wrong with a P&S these days, there is still a place for P&S, like the Sony RX100, but when you're looking at cheaper ones, a smart phone will often provide better results

I agree on the RX100. I love that camera. It's a decent alternative when I don't feel like lugging around the big boy :)
I own a Hasselblad Stellar point and shoot camera http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1059917-REG/hasselblad_1105028_hasselblad_stellar.html. Ostensibly the camera is a Sony RX100 housed within a Hasselblad body and perhaps some firmware enhancements. This camera is awesome and quite frankly, I have been carrying and using this camera everywhere . . . my Canon 5D MKIII has been collecting dust over the past few months since purchasing the Hassey.

There are many that tout the RX 100 being the best point and shoot camera in the world. I don't know enough about the point and shoot world, but all I can tell you is that will the Carl Zeiss lens, the optics are incredible and very sharp for close-ups without using the optical zoom.
