We will head over to the darkside for a day during our Dec trip to WDW.

What are your favorite souvenirs and how is the quality?? Of course, DS9 wants a wand and I would love to find a witches hat for myself.

also wondering about the best candy treats or other small things to bring back

do tell!

The souvenirs are actually quite good quality and there is a very good selection. Lots of unique t-shirts. Some very high quality (and priced) stuff like the full Marauder's Map and Time Turners. While the wands are not real wood, they are made well and have a good weight in the hand.

My favorite candy is a tie between the Pepper Imps and the Fudge Flies, though the Peppermint Toads were also very, very yummy. Hmm...might be a three-way tie.

Oh, and the most coveted treat I returned with was the bottled Pumpkin Juice. Not just because it was delicious, but also because the bottles are very cool.

I would say that most of what they have is pretty good quality, and they do have a pretty wide variety of items. Some things might seem a little expensive, but HP items seem to be about the same price even when purchased elsewhere. I have seen lower quality (non-HP) souvenirs sold at other theme parks for much higher prices.

What I wanted was a really neat "evil" shirt, like one that said "Death Eaters" or "Dementors" or "Voldemort" or something, but without pictures of the actors or movie scenes on them. And I found a Death Eater shirt that I really liked. T-shirts are reasonably priced, under $30.

Had the wands been made of actual wood, I would have definitely bought one. But they probably would be more expensive too, it would probably take more work to carve those designs into wood than to cast the resin ones, even if a machine did all the work. Not to mention they would probably not be made from the actual species of trees described in the books/movies, sourcing some of those in adequate sizes and quanitities might be difficult. The wands they do have are nice though, they are good reproductions, and they come in very nice boxes that make them even more worth the price. Be careful when waving though, they are not unbreakable. ;)

I only remember seeing a couple of witch's hats, and they were pretty expensive but looked very cool. Save your money if you plan to buy one.

My personal favorite souvenirs to bring back were the photos I took of WWoHP, they are easy to share with everyone and I like to play with editing tools to make it look like an even more awesome place than it already is. Honeydukes/Zonko's has a nice selection of smaller treats that would be fun to bring back and share as well. I think you can also send postcards from the Owl Post and postmark them Hogsmeade, your child's friends might enjoy getting those in the mail.

I went to an exhibition in New York this summer where they had some awesome merchandise in a really good quality. I asked the staff if this was the same merchandise as in Universal and she said it was made by the same company. So you can look forward to some really cool stuff.

Thank you all for your replies. I am very excited to see WWOHP. Just got the last movie last nite. Kind of pathetic that I still can't watch it without crying even after seeing it in the theater twice!

Are the wands similar to the Great Wolf Lodge/Magicquest quality? They are pretty good.

I will save up for a witches hat - I have a black velvet cape which will be cool with it. Halloween is huge in our neighborhood. We probably had 200 trick or treaters this year.

thanks again!

If you have AAA, you can use your card to get a 10% discount on merchandise; just have to have the card with you.

I don't think the hat is too pricey at $30

The one I saw was priced way higher than that, maybe $60? I don't remember. I just remember looking at the price and thinking it was cool, but the one I have at home is better and cost a lot less.

You can buy a lot of the Harry Potter merchandise right on Ebay. They have almost everything you can buy in the store on Ebay for sometimes half the price.
