My hubby and I are checking out www.qhealth.com. It is a Health care savings plan. We are thinking of dropping his insurance through work (We pay almost $400 per month on it) and picking this up instead. He suggested I ask my several thousand friends here at the DIS if any of you have heard or have Quality Health to get feedback. We aren't necessarily for or against this - so this isn't solicitation by any means. We are merely information gathering to try to make a wise decision. Your feedback is greatly appreciated!!

Thanks,
Angie

I see some red flags. There are no specific numbers that I could find. You don't pay 20% of hospitalization or a $10 copay on a dr's visit. It's vague. Also what is the max major medical amount. If somebody became very ill, say cancer what would be the procedure.
Dental, same way. There are no real amounts listed.

I think if you already have insurance, this would be a poor replacement, no matter the cost savings. Basically, all they are guaranteeing is that they are able to negotiate a lower cost with hospitals, doctors, pharmacies. You will still have to pay all of the expenses you incur. This is great if you are healthy and have no injuries or illnesses, but can you predict this will happen? That's the gamble you will have to make. However, if you do save the $400 cost/month from your insurance plan for now, you could make out ahead if nothing catastrophic happens.

As an example, this past year our medical costs were less than $4800, so we would have been fine with this program, however, 5 years ago when my son was hit by a car, the costs were well over $20000. If we had this plan, they may have negotiated down to about $10000, but that's a huge expense.

Good luck in your decision.

I know that $400/month seems like a lot, but it isn't. At DH's old job we paid about $600/month and that was a company of over 50,000 employees. We pay less now in a company of 20 employees with better coverage, but it is still $500/month. Like others have said, I didn't look at their website, it doesn't sound that good.

Very good points. Our medical bills were less than $500 this past year. We are very blessed. As I read the website it looks as if they negotiate very little for things like office visits but very high percentages for hosptializations (one was something like 90%). But the thing that made me nervous was that there was no specific sheet that listed the exact amounts for all things and again - what is the max medical amount?? (Just as Tigeroo said) I know it would be taking a huge risk. Thanks for your feedback - any others want to weigh in on this?

Access to over 350,000 doc's? That is pretty poor. I would not want some horrid surgeon doing my "Open Heart" because he is the only one that will cover the surgery.Insurance is about choices in my book. We pay extra so we don't have to have referrals & we also have that Tax Free something account.
