Hello all. I am in need a huge amount of pencils (1000+) for an upcoming Christmas shoe box project. With the back-to-school sales either beginning or about to begin (dependent upon where you live) I am hoping to find them for a decent price.

So many pencils we have purchased in the past few years have turned out to be worthless. Sharpen them once and 1/2 the pencil is gone! I have found reviews online for decent pencils, but then the erasers are bad. So, ! would like to find a good pencil WITH a good eraser! Is that too much to ask????

I know there are a lot of teachers on these boards and I am hoping that you will be able to provide some insight. Teachers, parents, students - or anyone that uses pencils or buys them for their kids, please share your pencil stories. :) The good, the bad and the ugly. Maybe we can learn from either your good fortune or your mistakes in pencil purchasing.

TIA!

Agree about Ticonderoga pencils. They are more expensive than the cheaper ones however the difference is noticable. Unfortunately when it comes to school supplies the name brands always work best.

I buy USA Gold. Target sells them. Last year they had some left during the clearance sale on school supplies.

I also only buy Ticonderoga pencils. My sons were going through so many of the cheap pencils that it is worth it to buy the good ones. I get them through Amazon as that is the best price I have found.

Op asked about low price GOOD pencils, they don't exist. It costs more to make good ones.....:thumbsup2 I like what some pp's mentioned, that brand is good. You can buy cheap pencils everywhere, but that is one my pet peeves.... they're so junky! Spend a bit more, get decent pencils that last a normal amount of time(ugh, homeschooling kids for years taught me much about pencil quality)

I am going to be one to disagree with Ticonderoga. I think they have changed. I bought a huge pack of them at Costco last year, and we have been so disappointed. Its almost as if the leads are in the pencils at an angle, it is impossible to get them to sharpen evenly...and half the pencil is gone trying, and the leads break easily. Very dissatisfied.

I bought a large pack of Papermate Mirado pencils at Sam's Club a few months ago, and there is no comparison. They sharpen perfectly every time, and last a very long time. They have a pink pearl eraser, which is great. We are much happier with these!

That's weird. I haven't ever had a problem with them, and I buy them pretty frequently.
