QSFB Alumni, tell me honestly, how was it?

Hi Everyone!

I got accepted into the Fall Advantage for QSFB, which ironically (such a cruel world!) was my last choice, and I checked off 5 other roles! I was trying my hardest to be open, but of course I got the role I wanted least. I don't really eat in QS locations on vacation, so why would I want to work in one? Makes me nervous! Anyway, enough whining on my part.

I wanted to ask how having the qsfb role was for you. Did you enjoy it? What were the best parts about it? I'm thinking my negative attitude towards it is just my negative perception of it right now. I see it as just working in a fast food joint and smelling like grease after work, which is why I hope I at least get somewhere that is more "specialized." You know, like somewhere that only sells ice cream or coffee or baked goods. I'm sure that qsfb has its good parts, I just need help seeing it right now!

I did QSFB fall advantage last year, and i loved it. I worked at liberty inn in epcot, for the american adventure. The work might not always be the easiest, BUT its the people and the experience YOU make of it. I think QSFB is one of the few roles that you actually get to work closely with fellow cast members. If you go into it expecting amazingness from it then, you'll be disappointed and end up hating it, however, if you go into it 100% open minded then you have the chance of loving your job.

Just keep in mind that it is Disney and whether your stuck in the kitchen or out in the rain serving some sort of food, its always about the guests, and really that's what makes it most rewarding, is seeing the happiness on the faces of the guests. (no not every guest is going to be happy campers, but you learn how to deal with them.) If you have any questions feel free to ask.

Thanks! I was thinking about that too, how it is always about the guests. That's what always matters and what I'm most excited about.

I work the other side of QSFB which is Outdoor Foods (ODF) and I absolutely loved it. What makes it so amazing are the people. At almost every location you're placed with other people, so you have someone to talk to and have fun with. But also, even if you're by yourself you're encouraged to stand outside your cart and talk with the guests. It's also great in the summer. The heat is a blessing and a curse. The curse is obvious, but the blessing is that SO many Mickey Bars melt and fall off, and Disney's policy is to simply spoil one and give another to the guest. It is amazing how happy people get when they realize they're getting something for free, and being a part of such a wonderful guest experience is truly a blessing!

If I worked at a cart outside, I would look so forward to surprising someone with a free ice cream because I know how magical the feeling is.

Last summer I was sitting on a bench near the hub at the MK and I just gotten a itzakadoozie, but they're really long. So, I got about halfway done and the other half melted right off the stick. I got up to throw away the stick and out of nowhere a custodial cast member comes right at me and gives me a brand new one. I wanted to hug him! Nothing like Disney magic!

My perception of QSFB is already changing

Magical moments are easy to do inside restaurants as well. We have the mickey crisped rice treats (thats what disney calls them for some odd reason) and when we saw a little kid with a birthday, we would hand it to them and tell them that "Mickey called and said that he wanted so and so to have it because its his/her birthday" We also gave away deserts for anniversaries and such. Magical moments are always easy and always fun and rewarding, not just for you, but the guest as well I wish you lots of luck!

I worked at Studio Catering Company and I LOVED LOVED LOVED IT.

But not for the job, lol. The job wasn't terrible honestly, it was just a job, but I looked forward to work for the people. My coworkers were my family, we spent our days off, our after work hours and our time in general together. We formed lasting friendships, we had silly jokes.

Work was a blast because of the people I worked with. We made fun of each other, we mimicked stupid guests (not in a mean way, you'll get it when you get there, lol) And we laughed every day.

And when you're done you'll have some great QSFB stories, it wasn't working in the kitchen, the counter or taking out the trash that made the memories (although sometimes it was...bad accident with a grease bucket, lol)
But the people. And I wouldn't trade that supposedly 'terrible' job for anything because of all I got out of it.

Thanks for the input y'all! EEEEEEK the prospect of working in a kitchen and making food makes me so NERVOUS! I read the QSFB role description before I checked it off as something I'd do, but somehow that part just never clicked.

I'm currently working in QSFB right now in the magic kingdom. It's not a glorious job by any means, you will work hard and be on your feet most of the time. However, I love the people I work with and the guest interaction that I do is absolutely amazing. I teach kids how to lasso (I work in frontier land) and if they do it correctly (it's much easier than it looks) I give them a sheriff's badge that is from "woody himself." It's really rewarding seeing the kids go crazy for that. Oh, and watch out for your leaders. I got reamed out my second day of training by one leader because I was leaning. JUST REMEMBER IF YOU HAVE TIME TO LEAN YOU HAVE TIME TO CLEAN!! (or greet guests, which I love to do) So just keep your happy face on, but be ready to spend time out doors or in front of a blowing fly fan that is freezing.. And if you work in stands west at MK, don't dump turkey grease on yourself, it's horrid..

Also, another thing i love about my job is that i get to see the fireworks every night, and at least 2 parades every day. It breaks op your shift and really puts that Disney energy back into you that the QSFB role can tend to suck out of you. Good Luck!
