QSDP options for child

We have the QSDP for 13 days and after looking over the menus I am a bit concerned as there does not seem to be many options for children.

Are there any options for sides other than carrots, apples, grapes, and fries?
Like maybe rice, potatoes, steamed veggies, bean, salad....
For example if you went to El Pirata y el Perico could they have the kids Quesadilla but with black beans?

Is there a veggie dog/burger option anywhere for kids?

There is an awesome sticky that has recently been put on the DDP board especailly to help with questions about the kids dining options.

Here is the link http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2479727

Make sure you read the first post. It has been really well put together and lists all the places that offer something other than the typical standard fare for kids.

What I can tell you in the meantime regarding the sides is that most, not all, but most CS places, in very very fine print at the bottom of the kids menu, tell you that you may substute one or both sides for a cookie and / or fries and the kids milk/juice for soda. ;)

I don't recall any of the menus saying you could sub for regular menu items if your kid's eating off the child menu - that may be one of the tradeoffs you make when selecting the dining plan.

You can ask about vegetarian options but I am not sure that will help you with the sides as grapes, apples, carrots and fries are all vegetarian (assuming the oil for the fries is)

For the entree that is. I am hoping there might be veggie dogs, veggie burgers, meatless sandwiches (other than PB&J), veg stir fry, all I have seen is cheese pizza, mac &cheese, and PB&J and a quesadilla. They have a fair number of veggie option for adults but are pretty limited for kids.

There are places that have kids wraps and you can ask them to leave the chicken off. Another option that I have used is places with toppings bars. The locations often have a kids chicken salad, which is a smaller version of the adult one. I have never had a problem getting this without the chicken and adding plenty cheese on at the fixins bar.

I doubt you will be able to get a veg patty and I don't know of anywhere you can get a veggie dog for either adults or children.

You may have to order the kids burger without the patty and buy a veggie one as a side and put it onto the roll yourself. This is a long shot, but have you thought of asking them if you could get a kids veg patty with a snack credit, pay OOP for the kids meal, and use the extra kids CS for a breakfast? There are so many snack credits on the QSDP that very few people manage to use them all without some effort.

I may be mistaken but I am sure that El Perico has a taco on the kids menu. Now that can definitely be ordered with beans instead of beef.

I can't give any info about veg. options - but we've done the DP many times with our kids - and like all questions about substituting on the dining plan - sometimes we were allowed and sometimes we weren't. My ds doesn't like grapes or fries:lmao: and while he normally loves carrots - by the third day he was sick of them. Some places let him sub any other fruit instead of the grapes, some said no. Some let him have a side salad, some said no. Some let him have a bottle of water (small) instead of his cookie. Some said no. Feel free to ask - but know that the answer can be no.

When my DD was under 10 and ordering CS, I would ask her what she wanted. If she didn't like the choices in the kids section I would order her an item ala carte. I paid for it without the extra fries, etc. and let her use her CS credit for Breakfast.

Are you going during Free Dining?

If you are on the Free Dining, check the price difference between the child's ticket and the adults ticket for your trip. If you up your child to 10 s/he will be able to order from the adult menu. The cost difference shouldn't be very much and the options for adults is so much larger.

I have heard alot of people doing this.

I wouldn't bother if the child is 6 or younger as the adult portions are quite large and I always share the 1/2 chicken meal with my niece.

Since the OP is going to be at WDW for quite a long time 13 days, it would appear to be the easiest thing.

My DD10 turned 10 during our last trip. I opted to have her entered in the system as an adult. More dining options that way. And on the times when she wanted the kid's meal I paid for it OOP. I wasn't going to waste an adult credit on meal that cost less than $10.

It worked great for us-she could chose whatever she wanted, with no restrictions. There were still times when we shared meals though. She's not a big eater and we have done the meal sharing since we first started using DDP (Jan. 05) Never have had an issue.

There's another thought at the CS choices. Many of the adult meals are big enough to share, especially with a child. If you want an additional dessert you could always use one of your SC for that. Same with a beverage. One of our favs. to share is the chicken/rib combo at Cosmic Rays. Plenty of food for 2 to share.

Some of the DTD CS choices have different items to chose from. Wolfgang Puck Express is excellent for kids. Here's the choices from the one at the West Side (nearest DQ)

Crispy Chicken Fingers with French Fries $6.95
Linguini with Tomato Sauce $6.95
Cheese Pizza $6.95
Pepperoni Pizza $6.95
Cheese Quesadilla $6.95

And the desserts are really good. :)This is another good place to share meals. We have gotten one pizza and one pasta and it's been plenty for my DM, DD10, and myself. ;)

I have had the same concern with my DS7. He will have older twin brothers having a wider array of choices. Plus, we are going during a FD blackout so increasing him to an adult ticket would be pretty expensive.

We have scoped out places where we think DH and I can share an adult meal (Cosmic Rays Ribs and Chicken, Flame Tree BBQ) - we will let DS7 order my adult meal on those occasions (if he wants.) On other occasions, I have asked the older brothers to share an adult meal with DS7 and DS7 will share his kids meal. If we have to, I will just purchase some ala carte items OOP. DS7 seems okay just knowing that he can have different choices when its necessary.

We also booked a fair amount of buffets for dinner to alleviate some of the problems.

Good luck!

If you eat CS at resort locations they are much better about subbing out for kids and allergies because they have access to many more foods and a real kitchen. At any of those they will likely give you a child's portion of vegetarian food if you ask nicely and they aren't crazy busy. AT park CS locations it's very hit and miss though if you are willing to wait and ask for a mgr you may be accomodated with a child's portion of a vegetarian meal. Most spots that serve burgers also have veggie burgers even if they aren't on the menu. I don't know of any veggie dogs. The only meatless sandwich I'm aware of is tuna (if you eat fish) and a few special places serve hummus. You will need to plan carefully because most of the TS places only have pizza and mac and cheese as veggie entrees and the sides are essentially the same carrots as everywhere. They will always serve plain pasta too even when it's not on the kids menu but it all gets old quickly. My kids were veg for a few years and it was really tough with the kids menus. They ate tons of pizza as they didn't like the WDW mac and cheese. We did lots of buffets too though which worked much better for them.
