Q on parking at hotels if dining there

I've never needed to consider this before as normally i'd be staying onsite or dining at a Disney hotel after being in the parks (so am in the main car park), but...

Are you able to park at a Disney hotel if you are just going to have dinner at the hotel restaurant (e.g. park at the Newport Bay Club to go in Cape Cod) or do you have to park in the multistorey car park at the village?

Pretty sure you have to be staying at the hotel to park or have proof you have a dinner reservation to park.

If you are already parked in the main car park, leave the car there & have a stroll through the village
