Q about using Disney transportation

This is probably a dumb question, but....
if we aren't staying on property, can we "tour" the various resorts by using Disney transportation? We'll have our own car, but just thought it might be neat to hop on the monorail, boat, etc.

You can do all the touring you want, you just can't use the pools. It's fun to visit all the different resorts, each one has it's own "charm" We like to do this, and dream someday of staying at all of them at least once!
