Q about Trading Points with Other Members

We currently have a reservation for 5 nights at OKW beginning Sunday Dec 28th in a 2 bedroom. The possibility looms that we might not be able to go down then or before the end of our use year (January 31). If I were to cancel now, we would only be able to bank 50% of our points and would probably lose the other half.

Here is my question. Is it within DVC rules to transfer points btw members? My scenario is that I would transfer the points used for the Dec 28th reservation to a member who would transfer the same number of points back to me, but in a use year that I could use (say next summer). Then the big question is, could the name on the reservation be changed? or would that mean it would be cancelled?

I think the trading part is possible, but if the reservation name can't be changed, then I would have to think of something else.

In any event, this is not definite yet, but I wanted to explore my possibilities.

yes you can easily change the name of your reservations - you can also try selling it on the DVC rental/trade board - or trading it there.

someone say that DVC has a one time only banking exception rule. I am not sure of the details so someone who is can tell you about it.

If I am understanding correctly, you have a Dec ressie that you may want to transfer to another. In return they would transfer so you could go next summer. What you actually cannot do is "transfer" the points to another member for that ressie while it exists; you would need to cancel the ressie first. You can only transfer from one member's account to another's current points not in a reservation. What you can do is simply transfer your ressie, meaning make an agreement with someone else and just change the name on the ressie to his. Your points would remain as is covering that ressie; the other member could then either transfer points to you or use his points and make a ressie in your name for next year.

Or, you could advertise the ressie on the Rent/Trade board, and sell it, then put the money aside for next year's trip to pay for food, or whatever, likethe member's discount for the room on the weekends, instead of having to use more pts. As a last resort, you could use the money to buy MORE pts
