I have searched and searched for a way to put my family of five onsite in the most economical manner. For me to get two hotel rooms as opposed to one will be close to $1,000 USD more all in the name of a five year old.

Can a family of five fit into a regular room? Can it be done? Has anyone done this?

FYI- We can't stay at the ranch becuase we won't have a car.

It cannot be done unfortunately unless you go to the suite option, which you already know is expensive.
A cheaper option is the Explorer Hotel with add-on cabin Room. Although this is not on-site it is served by the shuttle bus and is only 30 minutes walk/ 5-10 minutes shuttle bus away from the park.
It is maybe not idea but at aleast an option that is affordable.
Having the same dilema as yourself it is disappointing that there is no real affordable choice on-site.

We had the same "problem" for our last visit: the idea was my youngest brother and his girlfriend would also accompany us. (they didn't, because she had an exam the day after our return)

Our idea was to get a regular room at the Santa Fe (package for 4 people), bring 1 inflatable mattress and a sleeping bag, and buy 1 additional park hopper. Oh, in this plan, one person would also end up without breakfast at the hotel. (plan was, my oldest brother who eats about nothing for breakfast, would have had to buy something at the park)

When we were at the hotel, we inspected the rooms in the Santa Fe, and measured it up: it would have been possible, though not comfortable. Now, I must admit, we would have been with 5 adult in the room, 4 of them being 1m85 or taller ;)
With kids, it would have been possible. It would be a little more comfortable if you have a room at a more expensive hotel, like SL.

Is it ethical to do this? I have no intention to go into discussion about that. But it is possible.

I noticed that Newport Bay will allow 6 people when I go online to book. Are the rooms there suites?

The Holiday Inn (off site with shuttle bus) offer a kidsuite (normally sleeping 4) with a put-up bed (for the 5th), but you have to email them. They do not offer this option on the website booking. There is also the Explorers which sleeps 6.

We had this problem & therefore choose to stay at the Ranch.

Have you priced up the Ranch plus Car hire? I'm sure it will be cheaper than 2 rooms.

I totally understand your dilemma. We have three children and DLRP trips are extremely expensive as we always need two rooms. The Disneyland Hotel rooms are huge and it would be extremely easy to get a roll-away or inflatable bed for the fifth guest. However, this is against the hotel policy. On our trips there we have needed two rooms - even though all the extra space is a little unnecessary.

I think DLRP should review their policies and try to make staying on-site more of an option for those of us with five in the family.

There are certain rooms on the "Admiral Floor" which sleep 6 guests. These are in short-supply, so it may be worth booking if this a suitable option for you. :)
