so sorry for the loss of your family member.
we had a golden r. & should have put sleep, a few years before his passing.
[ he was 16+ & falling apart but had that twinkle in his head.] he died one
cold spring morning. our middle son yell, "pj - { our first 2 sons' initials], in
the middle of our driveway." i told him to leave him alone. what he did,
he went to the edge of driveway, & took his guard-dog position, &
lay down." i knew he wasn't getting back up & this was his last gesture.
that dog, loved playing/sledding with our boys in the snow!
later , our cat was in the tub. "star what are you doing". he looked
up & i could tell in his eyes, "this is where i want to pass."
we got a new buck on our country place.

, i know
many don't think animals don't have feelings but if one, only
take time to pay attention. [ now i am a deer hunter, bow & gun.]
understanding deer populations is why. [ i cringe seeing deer
after deer, dead on the road.] . hunting isn't deer killing, &
has an important role for their survival intincts. as soon as i
saw this deer, ( appox. 180 lbs, & a trophy- big rack ) i knew
he was "tame". hunters on our property, have been told not
to shoot. he does not know what hunters do. the other
day, he did a "photo-shoot" posing for all kinds of pictures.
a friend who saw him, had him following him all over the place.
when we first saw him, it was obvious that he wanted us to
pet him. * but if his intincts ever kick in, he could easily
kill you- he's that big + rack. last week when i saw him,
i noticed he has a yellow tag attached to his ear. he must
have escaped. and our "orientation" is working a little, as
he didn't come up to me for "petting." not only that, i could
tell...this is the happiest he has ever been. he strutted, showing
off. waving his antlers back & forth..*from the side position,
and i could see his eyes. [ he walked all around me.] also he
already "knows" most of the standard deer trails. but to
kill this deer, who have not been exposed to hunting, isn't
hunting. we are hoping he stays on our property, until after
the hunting season.
sorry getting off topic, but i think animals do have feelings &
i know our pets have been an important part of our family
life.
