Put gift card credit on room to charge against

To be clear I am saying using a gift card to put a credit on your account then use magic band to pay for things with that credit.

Is this an option these days?

No.
We have never been allowed to create a credit in advance with a Gift Card. We have tried

You can pay off the balance with a gift card afterwards, or even go down and pay it off every day or couple of days if you choose, but you can't place one in place of a credit card for purposes of creating a credit.

This is what we typically do. Actually a lot easier than going to pay off your room charges. I also like that your Gift Card balance is on the bottom of each receipt. It helps me be more conscious of my purchases.

I agree. I've never done room charging because like you, I think it's easier to just use the gift cards for purchases than going to the front desk every day or two to pay down a room charge balance. I also save money as I buy my gift cards at Target with my red card and save 5% .
