Push-ups

Also there are apps for you phone called "100 push-ups" or similar. They are workouts tailored to how many you can do now (including 0) to get you to be able to do 100 within 90 days. She probably could be able to do 7 pushups in less than 2 weeks if she works on it.

Thanks! I will have her check this out!

DD had her first PT today and actually managed FIVE push-ups. She said what they allowed for form was way easier than what her father required 😂😂😂😂 (He was Navy.) So she is going to use all the advice from here and hopes to nail it without a struggle next month. She also said she misunderstood and can take the first advancement test without passing the PT test, so she is in good shape.
Thank you everyone!

I can tell you that the Marines have a pretty loose definition of both push ups AND sit ups these days. They only really care about pull ups and the 3 mile run time.

I've seen a few things. Once I saw an FBI table at a college career fair and I went through their pamphlet. It did include their physical fitness test requirements, and of course the women's requires were lower. I mentioned this to the senior agent there (and yeah he looked like he was in his late 60s) and he started razzing the lone woman there saying "because they're girls" (or something to that effect. OTOH, looking at him and her, I think she could have outperformed him.

Pushups are hard for girls. My DD was also a figure skater, and she was an absolute animal -- 20+ hours a week at the rink, on the ice or in the gym. Still never could do pushups. Triple-doubles and level 4 spins, sure. Pushups, nope.
So could it be something to do with the muscles you do build up as a skater not balancing out the muscles you don’t? Maybe lower body needs strength and upper body grace? I could be talking nonsense.

No you are not talking nonsense. Years ago when I was working as a chef I did dance classes on my days off. Part of the cool down routine was 10 push ups. I was the only female in the class who could do 10 full normal pushups, everyone else did the half push ups on their knees. As a chef I did a lot of heavy lifting and had the same upper body strength as my flatmate who did weights at the gym. It was because of my upper body strength, my arm muscles that I could do the full push ups.
