we love the richness and sweetness of a good vanilla......and HATE to pay the expensive price for it.. SOOOOOOOO
We heard about taking a bottle of VODKA and we got the good stuff....and we added 4 large vanilla beans and left it in a dark place for a few weeks......WOW...well hubby went and put in 6 more beans this year and that stuff is better then ever.......It is so good in home made ice cream and in my frosting and in cookies.........try it guys
 
I have thought of doing this, but was never sure how many beans to use and how long to let it sit. So you used 10 vanilla beans? How long did you let it sit, just 3 or 4 weeks, or longer?
 
hubby did a big big jug of the stuff....BUT you can use a pint or a quart of vodka ....in a pint probably two beans.....in a quart use three or four .....but he used ten in a half gallon........I love to cook with vanilla can you tell......we haven't used a quart of it in the last two years. but the longer it sits the better it gets. AND then in a year if you want add more beans. Before we used it the first time we waited the six weeks.....
 
homemade vanilla is wonderful! A friend of mine made some last year, bottled it in smaller bottles and gave them for Christmas gifts. Another friend of mine makes her own kahlua every year for Christmas gifts. It's made in a similar way and really good!!
