Hi All,

I am inquiring if I purchase 24 points if the surplus amount can remain in my account for the next ressie or must they be all used at the time of booking?

I currently have a reservation for my daughter at BWV SV but would like to change to BCV which is twenty points more. We are at the 7 month mark. can I use the full twenty four points towards her reservation and keep the 4 points in the 2013 use year? I do not want to deplete my points but would like to surprise her with the BCV.

Thanks for your help! By the way I am typing this from BLT on the balcony and this resort is fantastic!!! We love it here and DVC just never gets old, evethuggish we do!

They can only be used while making a reservation during a single transaction and the option can only be used once per Use Year so you cannot purchase 24 points and only use 15 (leaving 9 for another reservation). In addition, they cannot be banked or transferred.

From the DVCmember website:

One-Time-Use Vacation Points

See the details on how you can obtain a minimal number of additional vacation points to use towards your stay of choice.

As a Disney Vacation Club Member, occasionally you may find yourself in need of just few extra vacation points in order to book that perfect dream vacation. Previously, this required borrowing vacation points from a future use year, but very recently a new alternative was introduced. They're called "one-time-use" vacation points and are available for a fee of $15 ($13.33 plus $1.67 tax) per vacation point. Availability of one-time-use vacation points may be limited or suspended from time to time, and the fee is subject to change.

Details:
•One-time-use vacation points are vacation points available for Disney Vacation Club Members to use as an alternative to borrowing vacation points from the following use year's allotment.

•You can obtain a maximum of 24 one-time-use vacation points once per use year per membership.

•A maximum of 24 one-time-use vacation points are processed in a single transaction, not multiple transactions.

•The fee for one-time-use vacation points is $15 (including tax) per vacation point, and is subject to change.

•One-time-use vacation points expire according to the use year of the reservation booked and are non-refundable, non-transferable and cannot be banked or borrowed.

•One-time-use vacation points are not available for waitlist reservations.

•One-time-use vacation points cannot be applied retroactively to existing reservations.

•One-time-use vacation points are only available for Members whose contract is closed and in good standing.

•One-time-use vacation points are available only for Disney Vacation Club Resorts, Disney Collection*, Adventurer Collection* and World Passport Collection reservations.

* Available when you purchase directly from Disney.

•One-time-use vacation points used for Disney Vacation Club resort reservations can only be used up to 7 months prior to arrival.

•One-time-use vacation points for Disney Collection, Adventurer Collection and World Passport reservations can be used according to the booking guidelines for each individual collection.

You can also only buy them if you have no current or banked points that could be used.

They are really only an option to prevent borrowing. If you are not in a borrowing situation, then you can't purchase them at all.

This happened to me last year. I wanted to purchase and save my own points for an 11 month booking. MS would not allow me to do that.

Interesting, I hadn't noted that qualifier previously. Assuming it means that only folks who own contracts purchased directly from Disney are permitted to take advantage of one-time-use points, I wonder how this is being enforced for those with points acquired both direct and resale. Any experiences to share?

Actually it looks like the asterisk is denoting the restrictions already in place to resale buyers: Disney collection, Adventure Collection, etc the one time use points could be used for those optima as well , if you are eligible to use those options at all.

The qualifier only applies to reservations for Disney Collection and Adventurer Collection options. It does not affect DVC or World Passport reservations - so all members have the benefit of access to these on-time-use points but only those who purchased direct or resale prior to March, 2011 can use that option for Disney Collection or Adventurer Collection reservations.

Resale points purchased since March, 2011 can not use those points for Disney Collection or Adventurer Collection reservations and cannot purchase the on-time-use points for those same options. At this time, they do still have access to the on-time-use points for DVC resort and World Passport reservations.

Is there a smilie with it's tongue sticking out?

You realize that I'm jealous, right? But, woohoo, I'm going to be there in 52 days.

can you only buy 20 if that is all you need or do you have to purchase all 24?

You may purchase any number from 1 - 24 and only when actually making the reservation (if you only need 20, that's all they will let you purchase). That will use your one-time per Use Year.

I know that I was able to do this just this past January -- purchase points at 7 months and keep points in my current UY to make another reservation at a later date. I just called Member Services to finally clarify this point. The CM told me that I could purchase the 24 one time use points for a reservation at 7 months even if I still had current UY points. She said some people do this because they want to hold onto the 11 month booking window with the rest of their points. She even double checked with her leadership team who confirmed that this was okay to do. I don't know if this is a change from how it was handled in the past, but it seems now to be an option. So the OP should be able to get the extra points she needs -- even up to 24 points if she wants to buy them.

Thanks. That is what I thought. We will need 13 for a Vero stay next June.

Could be a change or I just got a misinformed CM. Good to know for the future if I am every in that situation again. Thanks!

Gotcha! I didn't see the formatting difference between asterisk and bullets. I thought the entire line was a new bullet -- and overlooked the asterisk tied to earlier statement. Thx!

Looking (bumping) to see if anyone has had luck with this..... I only need 3 more points for the reservation I want this summer but would much rather purchase than borrow.... And really am not going to lose the opportunity for the other 21 points if I cant buy them all now or later....

You can purchase as many as needed to prevent borrowing. In my situation, they made me use up my current UY points though first and then let me purcahse just what I needed to complete the reservation.

The other poster said they didn't need to do that. If you have current UY points available but don't want to use those, maybe it would make sense to make a one night reservation with them, then book the reservation that you want that would need up to the 24. Once that is booked with one time purcahse points, cancel the "pretend" night and those current UY points would be back into your account.

I know that I have done this before when I needed to borrow so that the borrowed points would be attached to a reservation I knew for sure was happening and the current UY points were attached to one I might cancel so if I did, I would be able to bank them and wouldn't have to mess around with a point reallocation.
