Purchasing placeholder - I think I messed up

So when should you see the charge for your placeholder, if you bought one on board? I filled in the card with the agent and put it in the 'box', as she indicated, but when we got our final bill on board, there was no charge for the placeholder.

Is it possible that the charge is still to come, as they might not have processed all the bookings before the end of the cruise or am I out of luck?

Placeholder does not go on onboard account. It is a separate charge.

True, but the separate charge is normally made at the time the OBB reservation is made, even if you choose "use same card on file for KTTW account." You should see the authorization hit your account while you're still on board, and it posts in a couple of days like any other charge.

Hmm, well that would have been Friday for me, so it won't hit my account until tonight, then, at the earliest. Here's hoping.

Check your credit card to see if the charge is there. If it doesn't show up, call DCL and explain that your filled out the card but the booking you requested wasn't made. They might be able to help you out since it was a slip up on their part. But I'll bet the charge appears on your credit card in the next few days. That happened to me once. When I went to the OBB desk, the computer was down. The agent had me fill out a card and promised she would book it when the computer came back up. A couple days after my cruise, the charge still hadn't appeared and I was getting nervous, but a day later, the charge appeared. Also, have you logged into your DCL account online and checked your future cruises? A placeholder will show up in the list of future cruises under the Castaway Club section.

I just checked and the most recent thing from DCL was a week ago, so even though our bill charges were approved by my credit card and settled with DCL, my bank has not received the charges from DCL yet. There may be hope.

In the past, it seems like it has been a week or so before i've gotten the email confirmation and number. I booked a placeholder on Thursday and am still waiting for my email.

How long does that take?
Mine was sent the same day that the PH was booked, and in effect. I was still on the ship at the time so I didn't actually see it until I got off the ship and had connection again, but the date of the email is the same date that I booked the PH. I didn't drop an intent to book card in a box though. I was told to not do that and that wasn't enough to actually book it. I spoke to a CM and got it all squared away, and was given a confirmation # before I disembarked. If you don't get some sort of confirmation soon, call DCL asap and see if anything can be done. Explain to them that you'd filled out an intent to book card and dropped it in the box.

Do you have a DCL account hooked to your Castaway Club #? If so, log in and go to the Castaway Club page where it shows your future cruises; the booking # should show on your future cruise list with a sailing date of 2032 or some far off year. If you do have that and don't see a booking #, it still may be possible that it was booked under the name & Castaway Club # of someone else in your cabin. But if you check that as well and don't see the booking #, I'd call DCL right away to see if they processed the on board booking because the booking # should exist somewhere by now even if the charges haven't made their way to your bank yet.

That's my worry. I didn't finalize it when I was talking to the CM, as I needed to convince DH. But she filled everything out and said if I decided, to just drop it in the box.

OH! I just checked the card statement! It's there! It's there! I haven't received an email yet, though.

So happy to hear that it worked all out!!! The email thing seems to be hit and miss. Of my recent onboard bookings we had scenarios of only my TA getting an email, only me getting an email and not my TA, we both getting an email and neither of us getting an email.

You can always call DCL and verify that there is a placeholder attached to your name.

I may have to do that to be sure. We used a TA this trip, but I don't want to use her next time (no perks). I was planning on using Costco, which I think I have to decide this month, right? Even though it's just a placeholder that I might not use for 2 years, I have to choose a TA now?

They might have attached your old TA to the reservation. That might be the reason why you did not get an email.

The placeholder has tone transferred within 30 days of booking just like any normal booking.

If you didn't specify "no TA" during the reservation process, and you used a TA on the cruise you were on while doing the booking, that TA will be assigned to the new reservation.

If they did that, your current TA will have to release the booking for you to transfer it. And it must be transferred within 30 days.

I did say I didn't want to use a TA, which is how we were discussing it, but the CM was filling out the form for me, so I can't guarantee that's what she did.

Then again, if the TA received an email with my placeholder, one would think she'd pop an email my way indicating it. She is a good TA, and was helpful, but she's not a Disney specialist and there were no perks. Now that I know more, myself, I can afford to be more selective on who I choose.
