Purchasing More Days Vs. Park Hoppers

I'm hoping someone here can tell me if I'm missing something. DH, DS (9), and I will be at the World for 5 full days (2 traveling) from January 2-8. DH is running his first marathon - what a great place to do it!

Anyway, I'm weighing my ticket options. We have one Park Hopper Plus Ticket each left over from our trip in 2001. I can buy a 4 day ticket, with the 5th free, from Maple Leaf Tickets, which should cover all but one day, including the days we arrive and depart.

My question is - seeing that adding a day or two only costs a few more dollars per ticket, can I buy, say a seven day ticket and use one of the extra "days" if we decide we want to do two parks on the same day. We will be staying offsite at Windsor Hills, and will have a car, so transportation isn't an issue. This would seem to make more sense than upgrading to the Parkhopper option, which would add about $40 to each ticket.

Am I missing something here? I apologize if this has been addressed recently.

Thanks for your advice.

Disney is smart to this and doesn't permit the same non-hopper pass to be used twice in the same day except for re-admittance to the same park (the bio-scans verify it's "you" and it doesn't use up another park day).

Precisely as twinklebug said: If your tickets aren't park hoppers, you'll be denied entry to the second park. Sorry.

I see...so you really are just buying "days", not just entrance to a single park. I get it, and I thought there must be some catch to my idea!

Thanks for the quick reply. Now to go read the "Are Park Hoppers Worth It?" threads.

Yes, that's a good way of thinking about it: You're purchasing days-of-admission.

Just a quick preview of the "Are Park Hoppers Worth It?" threads for you: It depends. :) The reason is because it intersects with things that are really matters of personal taste. I still haven't decided whether it is "worth it" for us for our upcoming February trip. We really only need to park-hop one day out of six, but even that day we could stand to just do the one park and take an evening off. My wife's perspective is important though: She says that worrying about the $40 extra isn't worth the $40; for her it is preferable to pay the $40 because figuring out whether it is really "worth it" wouldn't be worth the savings.

But, if you already have one ticket each, you could use that one to get into another park the same day. The computer system won't let the same ticket be used for admisssion to MK as a day, and MGM as another day on the same calendar day.

You wouldn't be doing that if you have a one day pass already.

What we do when we need tickets is to buy the 10 day passes (last time from Ticketmania :cheer2: ) and use them for several trips.

Yes, that's a good point, but remember the one day left that the OP has is already a park-hopper, so there's not much sense using it for a second park on the same day.
