I’m looking for some help regarding buying DVC. We did the informational session last week and I think we are going to figure out how many points we need this week. My question is this - if we purchased 75 resale Poly and 75 direct Copper Creek, does that mean we only get the 11 month booking window at Copper Creek? We can use all 150 points to book the vacation correct?
I want to figure out how to get the best deal while at the same time getting the DVC benefits which I know requires 75 direct points now.
I just don’t know how it would work with combining 75 direct/75 resale and which resort would be “home.”

You could book at the 11 month mark at Poly with 75pts and at CCV with 75pts. And then you could book any resort with the combined points at 7 months, as long as they were the same UY.

So I could book at 11 months out with 75 Poly points but I couldn’t use the other 75 from CC for that vacation? Am I understanding right?

So if the vacation we book with the 75 Poly points is let’s say 100 points, do we just pay the difference in cash? I remember the DVC rep saying you can “borrow” points if you need more.
I guess I’m just wondering if we know our vacations will usually be more than 75 points is it a waste to have two 75 point contracts at different resorts?

You would have to borrow from a future year. Between banking and borrowing, you could use a maximum of 225 points per resort every 3 years.

You can purchase up to 24 one time use points per UY per contract. I don't know what those cost as I have not used them yet. The other way is to borrow the extra points from the next UY.

ETA: OTUP can only be used in the 7 month booking window.

If you have 75 points at Poly in your current use year to start, you also have 75 points in your NEXT use year, and those could be used to make a reservation at 11 months at the Poly. You would be borrowing from next year to Book something more than 75 points now.

Not at all. You can bank and borrow points into the next year. For example if your Poly vacation was 150 points for the week you could use this year and next years Poly points. Then bank this years CC points into next year. Then next year you would have 150 CC points for your vacation. This would allow you a week at each resort every other year (give or take). We own these 2 resorts and do the same thing. Although we are hoping by the end of the year to have enough for a week at each every year. It’s an addiction!

Everyone has the banked and borrowed quesitons answered. The One Time Use points that you can purchase for cash cannot be done at the 11 month mark, you must wait until the 7 month booking window, and you an only purchase up to 24 points.

I don't think you will easily locate a Poly resale contract with 75 points. There aren't that many Poly contracts hitting resale right now, and those that are are generally in the 150-200 point range.

I know I was browsing a little and did notice that...my question was more hypothetical. We asked about resale at the session and he did say it’s an option but of course he was pushing more for full direct.
I just wanted to see what the options were if we had two contracts.

We are basically doing the same thing with our 2 resale contracts at BLT and VGF.

Hey Everyone - Just purchased a DVC Direct contract yesterday over the phone. They called a few hours later with membership number, etc. Obviously paperwork is being sent to sign, but can I reserve dates with my points now or do I have to wait until everything is finalized and closed?

You can start booking right away! I also added on yesterday and booked with the points later in the day :-)

As long as you can see the points when you login, you are good to book using them.
