Purchasing Disneyland Hotel DVC Tower Points Direct or Resale?

When the Disneyland Hotel opens the DVC tower I’m sure a lot of people are going to want to jump on buying points for that property since many of us wish we would’ve jumped on getting points at the Grand Californian. Knowing how much the points at that resort are selling for now versus what they were originally selling for now.

Pending the status quo stays the same with resell restrictions, my question to you is if you plan on purchasing points at the new Disneyland Hotel DVC Tower would you buy direct through Disney or wait until it hits the resale market for a cheaper price?

Of course some considerations to keep in mind our if you already own direct points through Disney and have the blue card versus this is your very first purchase. For the sake of this post let’s assume you already have your blue card.

So what would you do? Direct or Resale for the upcoming DLH DVC Tower?

Hard to say for me. I feel like the DL DVC tower will sell out much faster than RIV. It could play out the resale sells crazy high much like GCA because of how in demand it is. If the direct is in the $200-$225 range I’ll probably go direct just to avoid waiting to see if I wind up paying more in the end.

I would like to buy at DLH DVC too. Am undecided if I will go Direct right away or wait for resale. I don't see resale restrictions at DLH being as big a deal as most people will use them exclusive use at Disneyland. I could certainly make that work as a DL local. I do own VGC and love it there too, but DLH is a favorite too, so want some points there too.

Presuming the direct prices aren't outrageous, I plan on buying direct. I already have VGC points and VGC is my first love, but I wouldn't mind owning additional Disneyland points to either extend my stay, or combine at 7 months for larger accommodations, especially as my VGC points are in a different UY than all of my WDW contracts. Thus, I need to be able to use these points at VGC as well, which means buying direct.

Even if I didn't already have VGC points, I'd consider direct just so that I could use them at VGC. Unless of course the direct prices are crazy high, or the dues are crazy high, in which case I can use my SSR points at 7 months, or my other direct points at DLH.

Would never go enough to warrant a resale purchase locking me in to only Disneyland for those points.

I suppose if you went every year I could see it but I expect DLT to be VERY expensive. It also will likely be gone 365 at 7 months 8am EST for more than a random day. At least with RIV, REF (if built), and all future WDW resorts there are bunch of resorts so getting a room in at least summer likely can be done 5 months out and possibly 1 bedrooms other times of the year. With DLT you have every DVC owner basically going after just a small number of rooms.

I think lots of people are going to be choking when they see the final pricing and point charts for DLT.

Disneyland is our favorite park and we go much more frequently than WDW-we own at GCV but I love the DLH and might have to buy there. I’d definitely consider resale here as I’d want points to use there-seems to make much more sense here with resale restriction than Riv does to me.

So just thinking this through from my view:

People already stay at BCV and BWV every single year because of the great location tied in to two parks and RIV has this same value proposition regarding location. Also at this point its not easy getting rooms at Disneyland (HH,VB,AUL I know people love but are destinations with hundreds of options as you don't need to be in that specific location like WDW or VGC attached to the parks).

Flip side isn't there actually hotels closer than DLT which is primarily just studios or pods anyways (not sure haven't planned at DL visit yet)? Also getting something at WDW is super easy for someone who owns VGC or DLT for their sporadic possible WDW trips so you are losing out on a major benefit of DVC. I would say not being able to book at Disneyland is a drawback for RIV but thats already the case across all of DVC if you don't own there.

Yes, there are. It's one of the challenges DL-owned hotels face, because DL-owned hotels are EXPENSIVE, and there are significantly cheaper hotels in less or equal walking distance. When I'd go out to Irvine for work, sometimes I'd stay at Anaheim just to make it easy to visit DL (even if it meant a commute!), and frequently stayed in the Courtyard or Fairfield Inn right across the street from the park entrance. It was less of a walk than DL Hotel, and I got breakfast included!

That said, VGC is worth its location, because it has its own entrance to California Adventure and a quick jaunt to Disneyland entrance and opens into Downtown Disney. Aside from its theming and being a Peter Dominick hotel, it's one of the reasons I wanted to own there. For me personally, the thought of buying at DL Tower has more to do with supplementing my VGC points at 7 months or extending my stay, or to use 7 months at WDW, Aulani or other location. And I imagine they'd be enough in demand that renting them out should I choose would be easy enough.

That said, if another VGC Unicorn Contract comes along in resale, I'll snatch up VGC resale before buying DL Tower direct.

We own at VGC, and would love points at DLH. However we hesitant due to the proportion of studios vs larger villas. We have three kids (7 year-old twins and a 1 year old), so we will be mainly staying 1- and 2- bedroom villas. Correct me if I'm wrong but the DLH studios only sleep 4?

Yeah, I’m bummed about that too. We are a family of 5, and typically also travel oldest daughter’s boyfriend and his daughter, so we want a two bedroom or occasionally a room that sleeps 5.

Have they said anything about studios and the number they will sleep? 5 would be amazing.

The worst part for your family is only roughly 11% of the bookable rooms will fit your family. At WDW most resorts have lock-offs for most of the rooms so they have a ton of 1BRs.

Who knows maybe Disney audibles and includes a small single style murphy bed?
