I am just starting to research getting another contract. We would like to get 110-ish point contract for preferably BCV as it is our favorite resort. I have been researching resale and now am reviewing direct sales just to rule this out. As the contract is smaller, my savings from resale will be smaller as well, I realize. Let's say I decide direct is for me, for whatever reason. Am I able to pick my UY or is just what they have? Will my going rate be whatever the Poly is going for now or the rates different? Is is a shorter contract length like resale or longer like a new property? I am trying to get a better idea so I can go into this process having some idea of what I need and what I am getting. Thank you so much in advance!

BCV is currently $165 pp direct. You will probably need to go on a waitlist for the points. You should be able to take a different uy since it is 50+ points. BCV contracts will expire in 2042 direct or resale.

You can pick your use year, but there may be a short wait if they don't have it in inventory.

$5K+/- is a bit of change when thinking about resale versus direct.

If the contract is stripped down, it will eat up most of the savings I believe. Am I not figuring this correctly?
Figuring about $12 a point after all costs are calculated will give you a good comparison. The problem with BCV is it is by far the most expensive option overall when one considers all aspects and that includes Poly, VGF & CC.

i realized that :(
However, we like to travel in the fall for F&W and in the spring. We have a poly with a UY for DEC already( I didn't know any better) so I was looking for BCV specifically for F&W. I believe that after looking at the reports on here that getting that resort has become increasingly more difficult for this specific timeframe. 7 mos out seems like it will be hit or miss.

yeah -- if you want to stay in BCV in the fall -- particularly in a studio -- you're going to need to have the home resort advantage. Normally, I would suggest looking for a resale option for a contract over 75 points -- but inventory is way down compared to just 5 or 6 months ago, so going resale might be difficult.

With that said, you should be able to find something around 100-150 points for $110 per point (that's on the higher side) -- so you're still looking at saving $5000 or so. Only you can decide if that is worth the trouble. Resale will likely take you around 90 days from start to close with points in the account. Direct purchases can get points within 24 hours...sometimes just a few hours. But they do not always have BCV points available -- so it could take several weeks or even months for them to have points available to purchase. Just something to think about.

Good luck!

Thank you for your input. I, too had figured between $100- $112 per point depending on the contract. F&W time is all about eating and we really prefer a studio as we arent cooking. I am starting to feel like a stalker on the timeshare sites...lol.

sign up for email blasts from the various sites. some contracts don't even make it to their listings.

Unless you really want/need the benefits that direct buyers get, you can try a two-pronged approach since who knows how long it will take for DVD to find you BCV points in the UY you want. Perhaps you might be able to find a comparable contract on the resale market before your guide calls you with available points! With the going resale rates for BCV, I doubt DVD would take many of them through ROFR.

If you must stay there that's the price, that or cash, but BWV is a much better $$$ value at roughly half the price for standard view. Of course IMO, BCV is all standard view as well.

While I'm sure you appreciate all the advice, sometimes, you just want a direct answer to a question. :teeth:

You can ask them for a specific use year. Because BCV is a "sold out" resort, they may not have enough points in their inventory to give you the use year you prefer. You can opt to wait (no way to know when they would be able to fill your order) or perhaps accept another use year that they do have in inventory. Since you will be getting a different use year than you currently have, the BCV points will be a separate membership. (If you haven't already, be sure to investigate what that will mean in terms of combining points for booking, as well as banking, waitlists, etc). Also, getting a new membership requires a minimum purchase. Currently, that's 100 points.

Will my going rate be whatever the Poly is going for now or the rates different?
Prices are different for each resort. IIRC, the current price for a direct purchase of BCV is $165 per point.

Is is a shorter contract length like resale or longer like a new property?
Each resort has its own end date. BCV is done January 31, 2042.

I am trying to get a better idea so I can go into this process having some idea of what I need and what I am getting. Thank you so much in advance!
Good luck with your research!

Thank you for all of the replies! I appreciate the time that everyone on this board takes to help others, it is awesome!

My family has stayed at both but truly prefers BCV. I am keeping my eye out for both though so if the right contract comes through at BWV, we may go that route :)

You just need to make sure it's worth the almost double price for BCV, it wouldn't be for me but it might be for you.

To elaborate on his point, dean isn't talking about the buyin for BCV being double that of BWV. He's reallynreferrimg to the fact that standard view rooms at BWV are absurdly cheap in points per night.

During food and wine, a standard room at BWV is 10 points and BCV is 15 points.

Thank you :) I did understand but clarity is always a great thing. My family uses this vacation for the pool as well as the proximity to Epcot so that is the deciding factor as to them preferring BCV over BWV. I love both so for me, it is a win either way.

Right, the scientific mathematical formula I always use is BWV=BCV-SAB. Thus, BWV is a nonstarter for us. But some people aren't big swimmers and prefer being on the boardwalk, so it's just a matter of preference like everything else. I walk over to the boardwalk all the time, but definitely want access and proximity to SAB first and foremost. We are also 1BR minimum, so studio availability isn't usually a big deal for us unless we are bringing a guest and want a 2BR lock-off (like we had last week, which was very convenient!)

BWV standard view studios for F&W are getting more and more popular. Even if you book at 11 months, you cannot be assured of getting one - there are members who "walk" those reservations every year, so you may find that the first night of your reservation is already booked when you need to book. This is especially true for the time around Columbus Day.

So if that's the time you want to use BWV points, I wouldn't give BWV much of an advantage (for cost) over BCV.
