I want to buy APs now and then book DAH for August in a couple of days. Since APs aren't active until first use (if I understand correctly), can I actually do that? I need the APs for a trip this Aug and one in Feb. So even if I had to activate them now, I'd be ok with that. I don't want to wait to book DAH because there aren't that many offered in Aug and I worry they'll go fast.

You can purchase now and though they wont be activated you can add them to your DME acct for use to book DAH. Once you get to the park go to guest services to have the activated.

I'd asked this same question previously on this board and been told that you can't get the DAH discount unless your AP has already been activated, so I'm really curious as to what's correct here. I'm currently in the position of deciding whether to purchase AP ahead and use it for discounted bookings in the lead-up or to purchase a discounted 7 day pass and upgrade it at Guest Services, in which case I would only get AP discounts on things I purchase while I'm actually in WDW.

Call Disney directly - I have found that there is little they cannot or will not do for you over the phone, and I honestly would be shocked if this was something they didn't have a solution for already. I've never had a phone call go poorly and have always wound up with the result I wanted (granted, I'm never asking for anything ridiculous like "plz switch my PC reservation to a luxury suite at GF for the same price thx")
