where can i purchase a bottle of vodka or scotch for in-room cocktails?
staying at POP, no rental car. Read somewhere that EP world showcase has a couple of stores... is that true? will they deliver to resort?

thanks. 14 days to our 25th anniversary trip

I've seen liquors at the resort gift shops, though often behind the counter and locked so you have to ask the cashier to grab one.
The definitely have it at POP(just got back). Couldn't say what brands they had, but as you stated it is behind the counter.

And just as a note, I believe if you purchase in a park, they will not deliver to your resort.

Seen it in the gift shops in BC, BWI, and GF (most recently in December). They also have wine and some pre-mixed cocktails as well as the mixers. Some of the shops in Epcot (Germany, France, Italy) have wine you can purchase but I think that you to have it sent to the front of the park to pick up on your way out. Last time we did that, you could take it with you but it's been some time since we did that - now if we want something we either order from room service or pick up at the gift shop.
At that time, I recall buying some small bottles of champagne from France and we sat our on patio with it in BWI after picking up some cheese and crackers from the gift shop. It's a nice way to end the evening if you're too tired to go to the parks.

We stayed POR and they had that in the gift shop area. It was displayed behind a counter. Maybe Pop will have something similar?

Just beware, onsite prices are kind of steep! I can't give current prices, jus the last I looked I was like, "WHOA! No way!"

As crazy as this sounds...(and I don't really drink)- but you MIGHT consider looking into the cost of a rental car. In a slow time like Jan/Feb- you might be able to get a car pretty cheap. Then consider you gain an hour or more each way (vs. taking ME), and you can maybe offset the rental cost with a few groceries. Many times we've justified getting a rental car just by getting bottled water, a few in-room snacks (fruit, chips), sunscreen, and little else. (offsetting a taxi ride!)

A car really pays for itself if you ever want to visit Universal!

A car also really pays for itself if you are looking at paying fees on your luggage, and can offset those charges by buying toiletries in FLA. Like if you happen to need diapers.

I will second, it might be cheaper to spend the money to get nearby....

But how are you arriving? do you have room in your suitcase? Are you on an airline that lets you have another bag for no charge and then you can load it up with even more thnings.

The GF giftshop had some behind the counter. It was pricier than here at home, but whatever. We bought some whiskey to sip on the balcony. You should be able to get wine in Italy and France, Sake in Japan, and brandy/guinness or scotch in the UK pavillions but I believe you need to be there in person for ID. Also we did a thank you gift for our MIL whom paid for our family trip using the Disney Floral department and they put together a nice basket which included wine, there were other hard liquor options to choose from, and that was delivered to hotel, once again you have to present ID at pick up.

Prices in the gift shops are wayyy expensive. You should try and make an order through Garden Grover worthwhile. They charge $14 delivery fee, so you may need to order some food items to make it worthwhile.

We got drinks at the contemporary gift shop when we were there in may. Not the best selection but it was far easier then getting a cab or renting a car to go elsewhere. Why not just put it in your checked bag

Depending on what you want and how much you could pack it carefully in your checked bags, decant it into containers of 3.2 oz or less and carry it on in your 3-1-1- bag or purchase it there. (You can carry on alcohol but you can't drink it onboard btw!).

Alternately you could use a grocery delivery service, we use we go shop and have also used garden grocer, both have been great. If you need more than just "beverages" this is ideal for a case of water, juice, milk we get cold breakfast items, fruit and snacks. Having breakfast in the room, drinks and such especially alcoholic drinks saves enough on the delivery fee and tip to make it worth our while, since we are usually a party of 6.

Another option is to hire a car service instead of using DME. With a round trip most companies offer a 30 minute grocery stop on the way to the resort, we just ask the driver if he/she can choose a store with a liquor store in the same plaza, then we divide and conquer. This will run about 130 r/t so its not as economical as a grocery deliver but you also get personal service to and from the airport and it saves about 30 minutes each way over DME.

I agree it might be worth it to just take a cab to a local store to grab some cocktail items for the room. Are you flying? Maybe you can grab some in the airport before boarding the bus? We usually pack a bottle of wine in our checked bag. I put it in a wine box and roll it in a towel in the middle of my suitcase for protection.

Many airports are putting in little bottle shops. Since you're buying inside security, you can tuck it in your carry on.

Still dearer than a normal liquor store, but cheaper than a resort liquor store.

most airlines, you can bring up to 5 liters of 80 proof or less alcohol in your checked bag. you can get beer or wine at any of the hess stations for just about "normal" prices. I can walk from the lobby of the boardwalk to the hess in 7 minutes. and bring my empty rolling suticase to carry some beer, wine, sub sandwiches, snacks. the hess by disney springs is just across the streeet (although I hear you can't cross now by the hess, you have to walk around?) they do let you bring a case of beer or whatever on the bus (no openin it! lol) just no suitcases on the bus.

the gift shops at all the resorts charge the same for liquor, whether it is all star sports or grand floridian. about $16 for a.750 liter bottle of smirnoff or jim beam.

(not that I know anything about this.. lol)

Isn't that funny; the last time I looked seriously at the hotel-shop liquor prices I thought they weren't that bad.

I have never seen a liquor store in an airport that is not a Duty Free shop. Meaning that it's not for domestic travelers; you can't buy anything in there unless you are on an international flight.

while $16 is more than I pay for a 750 bottle of smirnoff at home, it isn't bad for a resort. esp. when you consider one cocktail at the bar is at least $6, umually more like 8. and look how many cocktais you can get out of a 750 bottle. and you can drink in the privacy of your room or your balcony (with mix from your refillable mug)

It's a nice way to end the evening if you're too tired to go to the parks.

No clue on the booze but wanted to wish you a Happy Anniversary! We hit 20 this year, and went to WDW without kids to celebrate. Something to be proud of, for sure! Hope you have a wonderful time!
