Hi Everyone!

New here to all this, considering trying for a bcv resale.Does anyone have any info as to what would be a good price?

Thanks for your help!

what ever passes ROFR , resale BCV points go very fast and you cant find to many, if you see one grab it, dont wait, you may be waiting a long time waiting for one that you will only save a dollar or two and what happens if disney buys it back.

Welcome to the DIS!

Our board sponsor, The Timeshare Store, is listed at the top of this page. They have the most resales I have found. Call them and express your interest. Some resales never even hit the web because they are purchased by others who have requests on file. There are several other sites as well that are excellent and other folks will post those here I am sure. I have bought 2 resales from Jerry and Pat at the Timeshare Store and have been most satisfied (in the process of a third right now). Good luck!! Hope we can welcome you to the DVC family soon! BVC seems to go for $73 or so right now, maybe more with banked points.

I second the idea of calling a resale company and expressing your interest instead of waiting for something to show up on a website.....

Both my sister and I were able to get BCV resales but only because we gave our information to them and let them call us.....

The resales never even hit the website......

Thanks everyone for your suggetions.I'm going to take your advice. The only thing I wonder about is maybe to go w/ssr? The only reason I think of this is that in case I ever wanted to sell, I wonder what bcv will be worth, since ssr has more years? I dont know if I would be able to get my money back. I've never stayed at bcv, but have always wanted to. I love disney, my dh is just so-so on it.Oh well, just voicing my concerns. I've learned alot on these boards! I Appreciate all your help!

You are asking yourself the right questions. The answers differ for each of us. Pros and cons could be debated, but in the end you will need to go with your gut. You may or may not ever recover all of your investment in terms of dollars, so be sure that the pleasure it gives you and your family will more than offset the finances. We own at BWV but stay at other resorts too. We are too old to worry about the extra years. We have never regretted our purchase(s) for a single moment.

Hi DISNEMOM,

Somone recently did a lot of math showing the actual cost per point per year at the resales and with SSR. The conclusion that was drawn seemed to be that they were competitively priced, the extra years comprised the real difference in SSR, give or take a bit. Now, I tried to find that post, and can't, maybe someone will lead you to it.

Good luck in making your decision. 2 weeks ago we were at BCV for our first time and it was wonderful. We don't own there, but we were able to make a ressie at the 7 month window.

does anyone book at a resort other than their home resort often?and can you usually book easy at the 7month window?

I think the closer you can book at the 7th month window the better your chances are. There are somethings you may not get, like standard view at BWV, but some have, or some other things which escape my memory, like GV, but again, some have. Maybe you will not be able to get into the VWL at Christmas time, or December. We book studios mostly, and we were able to book a studio at VWL 3 months out for a Dec. weekend. Weekends cost more, but that's when we wanted to go, it was the end of a cruise, and it was available in Oct. for Dec. 19 '03.

For vacations that I really want, like our Grand Gathering, we booked 11 months out. So, just how do YOU feel about BCV?

Our trips usually include a Sat. night stay, our BCV trip was booked at 6 months out, it was fabulous. If I really really wanted to stay there mostly, THAT's where I would buy.

Good luck.

I got into BCV changing my booking about 2 or 3 months out. At the same time I only travel in the "non-high" seasons (no summers, christmas or easter for me).

well, i have always wanted to stay at bcv,but never have. i stayed at the contemporary for 3 nights last march and loved it.i've also stayed at poly, cbr and all-stars.i liked them all except didnt care much for all stars.i wish the poly had a hot tub.and the pool was really nice at cbr.does anyone try staying at non-dvc resorts and have much luck?

Although we have never used points to stay at non-DVC resorts, I'm sure many have with no problems. You will find that the real value for your points is to stay at DVC resorts. Many people will rent their points (currently going for $10/pt) and use the proceeds to stay at non-DVC resorts, DCL, etc.

For us, we purchased 150 pts. with the intention of only going to WDW every other year due to our West Coast location. We, therefore, don't have the luxury of owning a glut of points that can be used anytime, anywhere.

Hope this helps!!!

Here's my math. BCV at $74 per point comes out to $1.97 per point, per year. SSR at $95 per point comes out to $1.90 per point per year. So, if you bought at 200pt contract, your difference would be 14 dollars. It is EASY to say that the biggest expense over time will be the maintenance fees. SSR's main. fees are $3.80 per point, per year...BCV's are $4.17 per point, per year (of course, these will change). That makes a total main fee at BCV (still assuming a 200 pt contract) $31,692 over 38 years. The same figures for SSR are $38,000 over 50 years. So, you can see that these figures are much larger than your initial purchase price.

Now, here's my .02 on resales. Yes, there will come a time when there are so few years left on contracts that they will go for less...who knows what the world will be like at that time??? However, if you get on resale sites, you will see that there are a LOT more OKW, than BWV, BCV, or WVL. I am sure that a big percentage of that is:

1) people have owned at OKW longer, and are just starting to want out,

But, also...

2) OKW is a larger resort. The smallest ones are BCV and VWL, (and BWV has a great location, too). My point is this....it is my understanding that SSR will be the largest DVC resort to date. That means that there may come a time when there are a lot of resales on the market. I cannot IMAGINE a time when there will ever be a LOT of resales of BCV (unless something horrible happens...at which time, there will be a lot of DVC resales, period!!). The price of each resale is definitely driven by supply and demand. I saw a BCV resale asking $76 per point be "snatched" up in minutes on a website. That would have to be one "real special" OKW to be snatched up like that, at that price. It is all about supply and demand!!!

Just a couple more things to think about before you buy!! When all was said and done, we just bought where we wanted to stay!! You can go "nuts" trying to figure dollar vs. value vs. expense vs. "long-term desireability" and so on!!! Figure out what is the "most important aspect" to you...and, go from there!!!

Good luck,
Beca

I've purchased resale on two different occasions, both from atimeshare.com. I'm not affiliated with them in any way, just wanted to say that I had really great service and had no problem with my points.

I did this before SSR, so I can't compare the long term costs, but I saved a great deal on my Hilton Head and OKW points.

Just wanted to add one more thing to Beca's post that she did not mention. You also need to add in the cost of closing fees if you buy a resale. That would actually make BCV MORE expensive then it would first appear. So, if you're looking at dollar cost as a primary reason to help you decide, SSR is definitly your best bet. My guess is that dollars are not your primary concern... I agree, it is a difficult decision.
Good luck in deciding.

ETA: We purchased both of our contracts (OKW) as resale, and both times had our name on a list with a realtor. I don't regret having OKW at all. Haven't had a problem getting whatever I've wanted in over 10 trips, even when I've booked the day before.

We are in South Western Ontario and we may not be able to go to Disney ever year either. It is a big trip with the dollar exchange and everything figured into it.

I have been looking at DVC since my first trip to Disney in 1995. Everytime we looked at it before it didn't seem "right" for us. I loved the idea but just didn't fit for where we are at. I was really afraid that my points might expire and I would have waisted money on them.

Now that I have discovered this site and the fact that there is a market for the point if I need to rent them out I am looking at purchasing a DVC.

Don't buy before you are ready. Everything will work out as it was meant to.

Good luck. JLM
