Purchasing 4-day and 3-day tickets to get two Magic Mornings

My family is traveling to Disneyland this upcoming July (Wednesday to Wednesday) and I'm getting my theme park tickets through my employee benefits program. The options they have are 5-,4-,3-, & 2- day tickets, but we're going to be there for 8 days total, with 7 days to use for park touring. I was thinking of buying one set of 4-day tickets and one set of 3-day tickets for us so that we can have two Magic Mornings (one on the Thursday after we arrive, the other on the following Tuesday).

Does anyone know if this will work? I don't see why it wouldn't (we're staying at a Good Neighbor Hotel and did not book through Disney or a TA) but I wanted to double check in case anyone has done the same.

I don't see why it wouldn't work. They're separate tickets.

How much will that cost to do that though, and how would it compare to getting annual passes? You could get tickets and one Magic Morning and upgrade to annual passes if the cost is close. And then you'd be able to go again (and again!) in the next year.

And your employer still offers discount tickets? There's a thread here about how those kinds of discounts were eliminated as of the 15th of this month. That's here: http://www.disboards.com/threads/no-longer-selling-discounted-tickets-after-9-15-why.3537293/

I had no idea they were discontinuing the discount for some unions...just checked my union website and the Disneyland discount is no longer there :( but WDW is still listed, so they must be leaving that one there in hopes of enticing people to visit despite Zika and the other issues in the Orlando area this year. Thanks for th e info, I'll just keep watching for other discounts to be released :)

I will caution that some discounted tickets do not come with Magic Morning. The tickets through my work do not have MM. Something to look into before you spend extra splitting the tickets versus getting a 5-day pass. Also, I might consider buying 4 or 5 day passes and taking the other days to go to the beach. One of our favorite days last trip was spent in Laguna Beach. We enjoyed the break from the parks ::ducks head to avoid flying tomatoes::

It would probably be more cost effective to stay one night on site. You'd get EMH on your check in and check out day, plus if your ticket includes it, that MM too. One of the days could be a DCA EMH day this way.

Your strategy would work (minus the employee discount because that is not likely to happen) but at 7 park days, you are pretty close to the cost of an annual passport. Your only black out days around your trip are going to be before the 4th of July and Saturdays with the one that is 599. If you will get back before your year is up, I would consider buying 4 day passes (to get you through blackout Saturday) and then upgrading to annual passes. But I agree with the others. Unless you get plenty of beach days at home, a couple of beach days is a really good idea.

ETA: I like SMD's Idea the best!

This thread discusses where people are getting discount tickets now. I ended up buying through LMT. It's a really good discount!

It would certainly work, but it’s costly, even with discounts. Are you planning to park hop?

At full price buying 2 sets of 3-day hoppers is only $9 less than buying a Deluxe AP. Buying 2 sets of 4-day hoppers is $41 more than a Deluxe AP. Your idea of a 3-day and a 4-day would cost $16 more than buying a Deluxe AP. You could save $64 if you did not park hop, but if you’re going to be there for 7-days you’re going to want to park hop.

Even if you can’t go back in the year buying the APs is cheaper than buying the separate tickets. You won’t get Magic Morning, but that’s not a huge loss as you can start each day off at the opposite park. You would get food and merchandise discounts.

And BONUS, you can come back next year, and any time in between, for more visits.

This is how we will be buying our tickets next year. APs are a good deal if you can get two trips or are staying a week or longer.

I would not wait to update at the park unless you are going soon as prices could increase any day.

I agree with the idea of buying annual passes, you would get discounts on your purchases also. I do find value in MM, it's our favorite time in the park during all our trips. Rather slow time or during Christmas. I know the onsite hotels can get pricey. Have you checked Paradise Pier prices during your stay, you would get early entry each day that way.

Thanks for the advice on getting an AP. I'm thinking of getting one for myself and possibly DH, and doing two 3-day ticket options for the kids. The only down side is not having MM, but my hope is that once I have AP status, either an AP or Disney Visa offer will be released for my dates and I might switch to staying onsite so we can have Early Entry as a hotel guest. Thanks again!
