A friend has just returned back from Disney and said you can no longer have your purchases from the parks returned to your room. Is this true, I haven't been in a while but I know this was available then.

News to me! This is one of the biggest perks to stay on Disney. Unless this perk has changed in the last 20 days I think your friend is telling an untruth.

I was just thinking.(Dangerous I know). They still deliver to your resort but not to your actual room perhaps this is what she was thinking. My step brother had no problem getting packages delivered to his resort.
There are some Conceirge services were the packages are delivered to the rooms.

Maybe she meant that most resorts do not deliver your packages directly to your room. Most require you to pick up/sign for your delviery at the resort gift shop. AFAIK, the service is still a perk of staying on site in a WDW-owned resort.

Best wishes-

Possibly she meant they don't take it to your room, you have to pick it up in the gift shop. Some time back we used to get ours taken to our room and it was there when we returned from the parks. They then changed the policy to we will deliver it to your hotel, and you can pick it up in the gift shop. Maybe thats what she meant.

I do remember first hearing about this around a year ago. The packages are sent to your resort for you to pick up there, not sent directly to your room.
This page from the official Disney site isn't displaying correctly on my computer, but the part about package delivery is readable:
Package Delivery – Don't worry about carrying your packages around all day! Disney Resort Guests can enjoy the convenience of having purchases from select Disney shops delivered right to your Disney Resort.

They previously delivered packages directly to your room. However, they discontinued that (I believe after 9/11 when business dropped) and now they deliver to the resort (usually the gift store). It is still a great perk; just pick up your package when walking by the store.

Our first trip was in June 2001 (pre 9/11) and at least at ASMovies, they delivered to the resort gift shop, not the room. I don't know if they did direct room delivery at the deluxe/moderates then.

All our other trips post 9/11 have been in deluxe or moderates, and it has always been deliver to the resort gift shop.

What I don't like is that it can take a few days for the package to arrive. We were told that it might be two days for our shirts that we purchased at TOT gifts to arrive at the GF, since we were leaving in two days we opted to carry them. It should be faster service IMO.

Usually it's 24 hours and they deliver to the gift shop or front desk unless you're staying concierge. I was just there in July and they delivered to my room since I was staying YC concierge.

Just confirmed, she said they do go to your resort, just not right to your room. i know I haven't been there since my HM in 98, and everything was always waiting for us when we returned in the evening.

Not a big deal as long as time permits, two days seems a little long. I'm taking two little ones this time and it's easier not to have extra to carry and even nice to be able to buy stuff they don't see and surprise them later

If it is later in the afternoon or into the evening your package may not get to tour resort the next day. They also will not send a package to your resort if you are checking out the day after your purchase since it may not get there until the day after you leave for home.

It has been that way the last couple years. You can get the stuff you bought shipped to your resort and it goes to the hotel giftshop for pick up. In my experience it took at least two days to get the stuff to the resort. If I needed to use what I bought sooner then that then I just carried it with me.

You can always have merchandise purchased in the parks sent to the front of the park. That way you don't have to carry it around the park, but you get it that day by picking it up as you exit the park.

I remember the time when we would arrive from the parks and the stuff we had bought earlier that same day would be waiting for us on the bed.

I remember a couple of weeks after 9/11 was my first experience with package pickup at the store in POFQ. Just remember to write clearly your name and room number, I had a problem with a package under a different name because I filled the form in such a hurry that even I couldn´t read my name in my own writing, lol.

We used the package delivery this March at POR and it went to the resort gift shop. They called us the same day and left a message that it was there, but it wasn't, no big deal we thought that would be weird anyway. We just double checked on our way out of the main bldg. By the next day we had another message and this was the real deal. It was great, we bought MK beach towels on sale for $9.99 each (why didn't I get more  ) and we didn't want to lug them around the parks all day and we were hopping. This trip we'll only be there 4 days so if I do have to have packages sent it will probably be to the front of the park.

I actually like the service better since it is to the resort gift shop. I don't pick up my packages till almost the end of my trip. That way the packages are not cluttering up my resort room either!! (It is usually attraction photos).
