It's been awhile since I've potty-trained a puppy. Roughly, how long should it take? We just got the puppies on Monday. They are 10 weeks old. There is a boy and a girl. Right now, the go as soon as they come in the house. It's like they are holding it outside so they can go inside. :confused3 They are being crate trained and seem to be pretty good in their crate. Only one accident in there, I think. I was just wondering if anyone had any idea about how long it will take to train them. Also, is training two at once any help, no different, or will it make it harder? Thanks

We got a new puppy in May. She was 6 weeks. She has been very good about potty training. I took her out about every hour. When she was "going", I would say good potty. I took her out when she woke up from a nap, as soon as she was out of her crate, about a half hour after she ate or drank. IShe would whine at 1 am, 3am,5am to go out. I got up and took her. Again, saying good potty each time. You need to watch them and make sure they go.

She has never had a accident in her cage. If she does go in the house, it is usually by the side door.

Make sure you have them potty first and then play with them ,otherwise puppies will hold it. Puppies think once I potty I have to go in. GIve them a chance to play after.

Our puppy is 14weeks now, I let her out and tell her to go potty. She has a certain spot in the yard she uses.

Before I let her out ,I use to ask her if she had to go potty? Then one day, I asked her and she went when I said go potty. I now ask her if she has to go outside.

Good Luck and be patient.

If they don't go potty outside when you feel it should be time, you should put them right back in the crate and try again in a half hour. Don't let them out of the crate until they've done their business. Harder to keep track of two. Be sure to offer a treat every time they pee or poop outside and make a big deal of it. A gentle scolding when done inside the house. Be vigilant and get them outside A LOT!

Our older dog (a Bichon) took two full years to be consistently trained. He'd have good weeks when I thought he was all trained, then a back week here or there. He's almost four now and has been great for two years.

Our new Bichon (6 months)is doing great, still has the occasional accident, but it's usually human error-waiting too long between times of letting her out. Hasn't peed in her crate since the first week we got her. She seems overall smarter than our older dog, but sometimes I wonder if she learns faster because she has him to teach her.
