Sadly 2 weeks ago we took our very much loved dog to the vets to be put to sleep.

we decided we would get another dog but not just yet.

Well last night we went to see a puppy which we decided not to take but they also had 2 litters which will be ready soon. DH has now set his mind on getting one.

But we've never had a young puppy so any tips advice would be great.

Thanks

Sorry to hear about your dog:hug:

My friend got herself a puppy a few weeks ago and when I spoke with her a couple of days ago she said it was just like having a new baby, the puppy had been keeping them up all night crying, so good luck with that :thumbsup2

Sorry about your dog:hug:

Put all shoes/boots and basically anything that you can move and don't want chewed out of reach.

Get plenty off rest ~ Your puppy will keep you on your toes.

Give it lots of love and cuddles.

Enjoy it:)

Hi sorry to hear about your dog.

What breed are you going to get?

A week or two before you pick up a puppy take a blanket to the breeder and leave it in with the mum. Then when you bring the pup home wrap it up in that blanket so it still has the scent of its mum near.

A Puppy cage / crate is really good.

Try to pre -empt when a pup needs the toliet. Puppies ususally pee when they wake up and after / doing play time. A soon as a pup wakes take it outside to a spot chosen by you and give it a command it can associate with peeing etc I always say 'go toilet' . when a pup does go give lots of praise.

Dont know if you've heard of a clicker or clicker training but this really works well.

Accidents will happen in the house but its important to use a proper dog disinfectant as even though you clean the scent could still be there and a pup will go again in that place.

Pups tend to need feeding 4 times a day - always get advice from breeder about what they have been feeding - a good breeder will often give you some of the food.

I hope this helps pm if I can give any other help.

The most important thing I think is to have fun and enjoy your pup as they grow fast !!!

This is Floss when I took her home you can see the blanket - this also proved very useful as she was sick on me just after this photo was taken :rolleyes1
