Pup on the shells or pavement?

For those of you that have stayed in the 1500 or 2000 loop with a pop up, do you park your pup on the sand pad or on the pavement. I am trying to figure out how bad the shells will track in the camper. We have a large patio mat to put down under the awning but we will be using the picnic table and maybe the grill, so we will be going on the shells.

Any thoughts appreciated.

We parked on the shells both times. The second time we had a patio mat, which helped a lot (both at the Fort and just everywhere.) I think the shells are a lot less messy than some sand or dirt sites we've been at and we did just fine. If you stay on the pavement you'll be missing out on a lot of the space of your site, IMHO, and your patio mat will work out great to catch a lot before it gets tracked into the camper.

I am always on the coquina pad to give us the most possible room for awnings, easy-ups, bikes, cars, etc. Like Kristin we use a large floor mat that is oversized and I lay it out to stretch to the front of the pop-up to reach the concrete drive which does minimize (but not eliminate) shell in the camper.

We also put out a "welcome mat" at the bottom step to help. And for the kids (who are sometimes forgetful) we have a "no shoes inside the pop-up" rule which helps keep down the mess. I do sweep once a day and get some shell but these steps help cut down on any mess.

PS - by the way the welcome mat is an old FW mat with a van-style RV and all the characters/C&D. I won't buy a "Disney Parks" welcome crappy mat so if management wants to make some money on merchandise then give us the FW stuff. (Sorry, wanted to squeeze that rant in).

Kristin and Bama Ed, thanks for the info. We will plan on staying on the pad and enforcing the no shoes rule and plan on sweeping.
