Pulling a U Haul for luggage experiences???

We are considering pulling a uhaul for our luggage. Has anyone done this and is there a U Haul really close to Disney to drop if off then get one again for the trip home??
Suggestions please, has anyone done this?

Year ago I rented a UHaul carrier that fit on top of the car. As I recall it held a lot of luggage and we just left it on top of the car for the entire trip. A few years back my husband gave me my own luggage carrier for the top of the Tahoe.....it is the hard kind....holds a lot and is wonderful.

do you mena a trailer? do you really have that much stuff? if it really is taht much stuff, i wouldnt want to have to unload it at the resort and then load it back.

I only know of one family that ever pulled a U-Haul to carry their stuff to WDW...that was the Gosselins (Jon & Kate + 8) and they have 8 kids! They unloaded their stuff right in front of the Wilderness Lodge.

Seriously? The only time we've ever spent the $$$ to rent a Uhaul trailer is when it was necessary, to transport BIG stuff--like furniture. Never used one just for transporting typical vacation luggage.

In all honesty, I would reconsider how much luggage/clothing you really need to bring along to WDW. Cut it down to a couple pairs of pants & shorts per person, then mix-n-match tops with those to create additional outfits. Denim and khaki coordinate with most anything. If you will be staying for mroe than a week, you might also consider planning a 'resort day', where you sleep in, spend some time at the pool... and do a load or two of laundry.

We always ship a box of stuff down. Shipping may be cheaper than renting a u-haul plus extra fuel usage, etc.

We needed some extra room on our last trip so we got a cargo carrier basket that hooks into the hitch on our Trailblazer, it worked great for us. Still had the extra room but wasn't towing anything. We had a lot of stuff too!!!! This is what we used http://www.discountramps.com/hitch-cargo-basket.htm We really loaded it up, and dh put a tarp around it from the bottom up so we didn't get any road spray or rain and put a 4 ratchet straps, it went no where!!! We purchased ours at Harbor Freight for 59.99, its aluminum.

Depending on the OP's vehicle, I don't think this is such a bad idea. We have friends that we go camping with that have two sedans. They used to rent a mini van for camping trips and recently bought a small utility trailer - much easier to fit a cooler, a tent, and some luggage in the trailer than trying to figure out how to get it all jammed into one of the sedans. Also, depending on the vehicle, adding lots of weight up top in a roof basket or box can increase the chances of rollovers since the center of gravity is raised (and I say this as someone who used to pack up lots of our camping gear onto a Thule roof basket on top of our RAV4...so I'm not saying roof carrying is wrong by any means - just that weight should be taken into consideration).

I agree with daisyduck. The only ones I know that have done this are the Gosslins. And believe me they needed it. Not sure my family of 4 (adults) would need that.

I wanna know what the OP is bringing! There's only a mention of 'luggage' - yikes, I couldn't fill up a small uhaul with clothes if I tried!

let me provide some more details for those that were confused LOL
We are driving in a 2009 Journey with my husband and I, a 5 year old an almost 3 year old and my parents
there is only room in the back for 3 small carry ons because the kids will be sitting in the 3d row seats
we debated using the roof top but then it is a hassle to take everything down for our overnight hotel stops there and back
so we are considering the small uhaul for our luggage and I just wondered what others have done when they needed to get their luggage to Disney and it did not fit in the vehicle
We have 4 large suitcases, I like the idea someone gave of shipping but I would be afraid of it getting lost or not arriving on time???

U-Haul is expensive. It may be cheaper to buy a rooftop luggage carrier.

You may also want to recondiser what you pack. Most people grossly overpack.
