Pull-ups Question

I've heard they are good for the airport because they are easier to change. DS is 2.5 and goes on the potty once in a while, but I don't think he'll be asking to use the potty much while in Disney, he'll be so distracted. Are pull-ups as absorbent as regular diapers? Should I use them for the whole trip except overnight? If you have any input I'd appreciate it! Thanks in advance.

We've used both Huggies Pull Ups and Pampers Feel and Learn. Both work fine and it is great they just slide on. As far as absorbency no problem, we even use them for night time. Personally, I do like the Pampers Feel and Learn, they seem softer - not that I wear them ;)

You are in the same boat as me! My DS is also 2.5 and just started using the potty this week! He goes like 6 times a day so not ready for undies yet. We leave for WDW in 6 weeks...so I think I'll have to pack diapers for overnight(I think they are more absorbant for overnight), the Pampers Feel& Learn's (he loves the Spiderman ones) and swim diapers for the pool. I figuring all of them so I am prepared for it all!:thumbsup2

I don't see how pullups will be any easier than diapers IMO, especially the Pampers? ones that don't have the easy open sides. You'd have to take off the pants and shoes to get them on. I would just stick w/ diapers and only use pullups in emergencies once he is potty trained well. We made that mistake w/ our oldest and now at 4 he'll still pee in a pullup if he wears one b/c he knows he can. Evan won't b/c he thinks of them as undies since he only wears them ocassionally. I'm still not sure what we'll do at the parks.

Having Pull Ups or the feel and learn's on in the parks is a good idea...i just think even if they think of them as undies (as mine did) they are a great for "just in case". When my girls were good with going on the potty..they never wore diapers again...switched right to undies and the occasional pull ups..didn't want to confuse them.

If you child isn't fully potty trained I'd just keep in diapers for the trip. We took our DD to WDW at 3 1/2. She was trained just before her 3rd birthday but we worried about not having immediate access to a bathroom etc. Anyway, we put a pullup over her underpants as sort of an insurance policy. She understood she needed to let us know if she had to go but if we didn't make it then at least she would wet all her clothes. I think 2 or 3 times we had to change her underpants (I just threw out the wet ones) during our week long stay.

You said your child uses the toilet every once in a while. In that situation, I would just use diapers. They are cheaper and more absorbant than Pull-Ups. Pull-Ups are made for the ocassional accident and unless you plan on changing it every time he pees, you could have some leaks.

My dd3 had been fully potty trained for months before went last November but I was concerned about her telling me because she was so excited and was afraid she wouldn't want to take breaks to use the potty. I was also concerned about her ability to hold it when we were lines. She did great telling me she had to go -- if she hadn't said anything in a while and we passed a restroom - in we went. We joked that we toured every restroom in all of the parks. We had no accidents from her during the 9 day trip. My son, who was 5 (and had been potty trained since he turned 2) had one accident at the MK -- he waited too long to say anything and then daddy couldn't find the bathroom (we were in Toontown Fair) -- I had to buy new underpants and was planning to throw out the old ones. The cashier knew what had happended and said they see that all the time (even from bigger kids) and gave me a small bag for the soiled ones.

Pull ups are not as absorbent as diapers and they are not as breathable IMO.

My son is 23 months and is pretty much potty trained. We just don't have a lot of lead time to get him to a potty when we are out and about. Pull ups are a nice "security" but I would not use them as a sub for diapers if he wasn't using the potty regularly.

I agree that they are harder to get on and off. With a diaper I had perfected the stand up change--and that didn't require taking off his pants.

The Pull Ups leaked when my son used them, and again the other week when my daughter used them. Definitely not as absorbent.

Thanks for all the great info!! I was putting off the potty training until after the trip exactly so we don't have to do the "Disney potty tour". Not that he's totally ready yet anyway.
I knew I could count on you guys for help!

Lyssa,
I see your point, your trip is 6weeks away and if he is not ready to train yet I would not push the issue until you are back home. I was worried about the same thing with my DS. ANyway I do think it's easier to change the pullups. you can just go into a stall and change them standung up. I did this with DD when she 2.5 and we went to Disney. LOL though she potted trained the week after we got home and never ever had and accident even at night.
Have a great trip! We are going  in 7 weeks.

I am in a similar situation. My middle son refused forever to potty train and now he is doing well with the pee in the potty, with hardly an accident except for nighttime. The problem for us is poo in the potty--he just flat out refuses to do that. He has been doing the pee in the potty for well over a month.
He wears undies all day and is dry with no accidents about 90+% of the time. He only poos in his diaper at night usually, or maybe naptime.

We leave for Disney in 3 weeks and are totally unsure as to how to approach our situation.
So, OP, I feel for ya;)

We used diapers on the plane and at night, while pull ups and underwear during the day. Pull ups are not as absorbent as diapers--we learned that the hard way at Orlando Airport!
