Pudge Controls the Weather-A Dining Report (Updated 9/1-Bfast at EG-Closing Thoughts)

The kid @ Boma musta been a trip to watch! Sry, but my little one would NOT have been left alone w/o an older sibling or adult. However, that's a funny story & I don't blame him for wanting a sip.:lmao:

So far the cruise is lookin' good to me.:thumbsup2 We have never been but it's in the running for our next BIG vaca!

Oh & the onion rings w/ horseradish...mmmmmmm. They look delish!!

So far, great reviews!!! I'm looking forward to the cruise portion, we have yet to take a cruise, so I am just beginning to look into it!:cool1:

I'm looking forward to reading your cruise reviews, since I've never been on a Disney cruise. :)

The cruise was absolutely amazing !! This was our first time, too, and we deemed it the Best. Vacation. Ever. We can't WAIT to go back.

Ahhhh your photos bring me back to our Dream cruise in January! I loved the cruise so much (and glad to see that you got to partake of the drink of the day) :thumbsup2

And your food at 50s PT looks so good to me right now. I'm a little bit bummed that I cancelled my ADR there for our first night at WDW. Oh well, I'm sure I'll make up for it.

I can't wait to see how the rest of the cruise food was!

We loved the Disney Cruise and everything about it.

We really loved 50's Prime Time. We will definitely go back !!

He was alone long. Just a few minutes. It was funny.

I strongly urge you to try the cruise. It is wonderful !!

I know, I love onion rings and those were really good.

Thanks !! Do the cruise !! Seriously, it is amazing !!

So, I have some sad news ...... nothing tragic, but sad nevertheless. DH has done an accounting of our finances and has decreed that we need to "spend less". And if I wanted to renew our annual passes, I better find a way to save some money. So, I got to thinking and I figured we could save about $400 by going from the DDP to the QSDP. I mean that right there is the cost of one of our annual passes. (We get DVC renewal rate of $385 a piece). So today I cancelled all of our ADR's. Wah, wah, WAH !!! I will still do dining review of our QSDP and it won't all be burgers and fires !!

If ANYONE has any advice regarding good QS places with a good value and great food, please share !!

Anyway, back to our regularly scheduled programming.

Dinner at Enchanted Garden

We had late seating for dinner, which was 8:15 PM and it was OK, but next time I am going to ask for early seating. I just prefer to eat earlier so my food can settle some before bed. I don’t really like to stay up super late, so I just prefer to eat early and then have some time to do other stuff before bed. Our dining rotation was ERAAE which stand for Enchanted Garden, Royal Palace, Animator’s Palate, Animator’s Palate and then Enchanted Garden again. But we had Palo booked for our last night, so we wouldn’t eat there the last night, but would eat at EG the last morning for breakfast.

So at this point, I am starting to feel a little queasy, so I took a Bonine and we headed to Enchanted Garden.

A photo of the Atrium chandelier again

DSC02714.jpg

We were seated at table 24 and we had some VERY nice and fun tablemates from Virginia. It was a woman and her two sons and her mother. Wonderful people. We really enjoyed their company at meals.

Our head sever was Dolan, I think. Our Main waiter was Warren, and our assistant server was Ibrahim, from Turkey.

So we ordered drinks and they brought our bread. Multi-grain Loaf and Country Current Bread with Chickpea-Garlic Purée

DSC02717.jpg

For Starters DH ordered - • Heirloom Tomato Soup With Sour Cream, Croutons, and Basil,

DSC02718.jpg

I ordered • Romaine Wedge fresh crisp Romaine topped with a creamy Romano Dressing and homemade spiced Croutons

DSC02719.jpg

By this time, I am starting to struggle with nausea. Someone from the table next to us had to go back to her room because she wasn’t feeling well.

I don’t remember what DD ordered. I didn’t get a photo, but I think she got Mac n Cheese.

I made it through the salad and DH and I both ordered. • Slow Roasted Prime Rib Thyme-roasted Vegetables, Double-baked Potato, Horseradish, and Natural Jus

DSC02720.jpg

I had one bite – and I couldn’t get it down. So I quickly excused myself and just made it to the bathroom. Yeah, it was gross. So after that, I felt a little better and went back to the table and had a bite of potatoes. And ……. no. It wasn’t that it didn’t taste good, because it did, but I guess I was seasick. So I gave my apologies to everyone and headed back to our Stateroom to lay down. Just as I got there DS was there, too saying he didn’t feel well either. I was sick a little more and then we both took another Bonine and watched a movie.

Back at the restaurant, DH and DD were fine. DD even took a photo of her dessert for me.

DSC02721.jpg

For dessert DH had • Sweet Temptations A trio of Esterhazy Cake, Strawberry Cheesecake, and Chocolate Silk Mousse

But he didn’t get a photo. He said the meal was excellent and I was disappointed that I couldn’t finish. But for the rest of the cruise, I was fine. I kept up with my Bonine though. We even brought ear patches and sea bands but only needed the Bonine, so I was thankful.

I am going to give this and Edna rating

Edna_mode2.jpg

- because I didn't get to finish and what I had was just OK. But the fact that my stomach was "squishy" might have had something to do with it, so maybe that isn't a fair rating.

So, I have some sad news ...... nothing tragic, but sad nevertheless. DH has done an accounting of our finances and has decreed that we need to "spend less". I will still do dining review of our QSDP and it won't all be burgers and fires !!

If ANYONE has any advice regarding good QS places with a good value and great food, please share !!

Honestly, there is not much value to QSDP..especially since they reduced it to one snack per day. I look at is more of a budgeting tool, and you do have to work at making sure you get your money out of it. You pretty much have to stick to the most, or second most, expensive item on the menu to get the value out of it at most places.

In general, you don't want to do is use any of your credits on b'fast (although that was probably pretty obvious). I think the exception would be if your are doing a lot of meal splitting. If DD wasn't so stinking picky, that is what we would do. We both like a good b'fast in the morning, but I can't justify using dining plan credits on b'fast since she won't share. (If we are at POP, I'll use my TiW card though.)

WPE is your best use of credits on property, bar none. Cosmic Rays you can get a good value w/ the Chicken and Ribs combo and the 1/2 rotissere chicken. That Tortuga something or other place in Adventureland appears to have pretty larger portions that could be split. Haven't eaten there as of yet, but took notice of the entrees when we were playing SotMK in there. Oh, and CHH has a combo meal of some sort that is a good value. Can't remember what it is at the moment, but it is one of the most expensive things on the menu.

AK- Flame Tree BBQ has a half rack of ribs and I think they have the ribs and chicken combo there as well. (On a side note about Flame Tree- If you have picky eaters that are not interested in the menu, Pizzafari is not too far away. The last couple of times we've eaten in AK, I've gone to Flame Tree and DD has gone to Pizzafari. Another thing to consider about AK is that you can use your TiW at both the Flame Tree and Pizzafari thereby stretching your credits.)

At EP- The QS place in Mexico is a good, and a pretty good value. The menu is rather limited, but the food has improved so much since they shut it down and refurbed a few years ago. Another good spot is Tangierine Cafe in Morocco. Both the Mexico and Morocco place have large portions that can easily be split. You could probably get good bang for the buck at that CS place in The Land, but frankly, I didn't care for the food. I'd just as soon as eat at the Electric Umbrella if I were eating in Future World.

I also feel like you get a lot of bang for your buck/credit at the Contempo Cafe at the CR. The food is very good and the desserts are amazing. It is a good lunch spot if you're taking a mid-day break from MK. If the CS place at CSR is on the dining plan, that is another place with really good food. Downside is that CSR is out of the way. Maybe for dinner after AK???

At DHS, one place is just as good as another. Honestly we've gotten to where we take the boat over to Beaches and Cream and use the TiW card, or leave the park after a half day and eat elsewhere.

That's all the comes to mind at the moment. If you had the time and inclination, I'd say run some numbers to see if you could save more money using your TiW for a few strategically planned CS meals and then fill in the rest with QS. You probably can. Oh, and I just read a blog in the last week about where to eat to maximize your credits. I can't remember if it was on TP or Disney Tourist. I'll look for it and post a link for you.

You pretty much have to stick to the most, or second most, expensive item on the menu to get the value out of it at most places.

I like the idea of having everything paid for though. DH is VERY money conscious right now and he would ask how much EVERYTHING costs. It completely drives me crazy and it makes my trip NOT enjoyable. At. All. So if downgrading to QSDP helps us save some, then I like it. I really do like the convenience of having all of the credits and having it all paid for.

I think we will use snack credits on breakfast or just bring bagels from home. We MAY hit WPE for breakfast one day since their options look so good. Will will probably go there on our rest day. I think doing a sit down breakfast on a park day just takes time away from maximizing your FP opportunities and lengthens your park day, so we don't usually do a big breakfast on park days. good info on using your TiW at Pop, though. Didn't know that .....

WPE is definitely on our list, of course. We will prolly hit that 2-3 times. I dunno about Cosmic Rays. That place doesn't do it for me. I have always wanted to hit the Tortuga place or Pecos Bills. And we love CHH and I have been wanting to try the salmon there.

AK- Flame Tree BBQ has a half rack of ribs and I think they have the ribs and chicken combo there as well. (On a side note about Flame Tree- If you have picky eaters that are not interested in the menu, Pizzafari is not too far away. We ate at Flame Tree last November and we just didn't like it much. We think we might hit the Yak and Yeti CS and see how we like that.

At EP- The QS place in Mexico is a good, and a pretty good value. The menu is rather limited, but the food has improved so much since they shut it down and refurbed a few years ago. I have very much been wanting to try the Mexico place and the Morocco place, so those are good ideas. The kids can get whatever somewhere else. That is the beauty of WS, you can eat anywhere. Since we will be there for 7 days, we will have 56 credits to burn, so I am not convinced that sharing will be necessary. It we add a couple of breakfasts, though, then we can share to spread things out.

I will have to put Contempo Cafe on our list. We are at WLV, so we could hop in the boat and cruise on over. we could do ti on our MNSSHP day maybe. Eat a late lunch and head over the MK around 4 ish. I wonder if they will let scooters on the boat. I will have to check that out.

At DHS, one place is just as good as another. Honestly we've gotten to where we take the boat over to Beaches and Cream and use the TiW card, or leave the park after a half day and eat elsewhere.

We love Beaches and Cream. I know that is something DH would pay OOP for.

That's all the comes to mind at the moment. If you had the time and inclination, I'd say run some numbers to see if you could save more money using your TiW for a few strategically planned CS meals and then fill in the rest with QS. Yes, find the link. I would so love to read that. Thanks for all the advice. You are the bestest !! But you knew that already !! :lovestruc

Sorry you weren't feeling well the first night! That would be a concern for me as well!

Have you considered not having any dining plan and just using your TiW card? The DDP is not much of a savings anymore and by just paying OOP with the TiW you can order more what you really want instead of trying to maxamize the value!

For my trip I have been buying Disney Gift Cards at Safeway and will use them to pay for everything. By buying them there I get 4x fuel rewards that my hubby uses to fill up his big truck! We are saving in a round about way! I've also heard people buy them at Target with the 5% Red Card and 5% Pharmacy Rewards (no idea what the Pharmacy Rewards are though so I'm no help there!)

I hear ya, it is much easier having everything paid before you leave. And you have to do what makes your life easy and trip enjoyable. :thumbsup2 I think you'll really enjoy how much of your time is freed up by using QSDP. More than anything, that is what sold me on this plan after we did it the first time.

I'm not sure about the scooter on the boats over to the Contemporary. They use the small boats to get over to the Contemporary.

Pecos Bills is awesome. Highly recommend. It is my favorite place at MK, but I don't get to eat there b/c DD won't eat anything there. The last time I went was in 2008 when I was in Orlando for a seminar. That is pretty darn sad. You can maximize your value better at other places, but who cares. It is yummy!

I've always wanted to try the Yak and Yeti CS place. It always smells so good when you walk past! I've bypassed it b/c I didn't figure DD would eat anything there. But she enjoyed the CS place in Japan, so maybe she'll find something.

For my trip I have been buying Disney Gift Cards at Safeway and will use them to pay for everything.

I do this too. I only wish Disney would get it together and allow you to add money to the cards online rather than forcing you to do it with a retailer. This tends to confuse the cashiers at the Kroger.

I used to be die hard about having the dining plan. Then we got annual passes and the Tables in Wonderland card that we used along with the dining plan for a couple of trips. And now we just use the TIW card. Its been a slow progression but I think its safe to say I'm a recovering dining plan addict :rotfl2:

I like the fact that with the dining plan pretty much everything is pre-paid so I don't have to worry so much about keeping on budget during our trip. So now that we just use TIW I load up a pre-paid credit card with what I estimate we'll be spending on food and some souvenirs. That's the card we use when we check in so its connected to our Key to the World card and everything just comes off of that so its almost like being on a pre-paid dining plan for us :thumbsup2

I understand that just using the TiW card may save me money, but having it all paid for in advance really works best for us. DH tends to count and complain about every dollar. It drives me crazy and it is just better for us to have everything paid for. He worries less about what is spent and enjoys everything more. And then WE enjoy everything more.

Here's the link to that article I mentioned.

Breakfast at Cabanas

cabanas.jpg

cabanas1.jpg

We planned a relaxed morning, not rushing off anywhere. So we took it slow and went up to Cabanas for breakfast.

Cabanas2.jpg

I usually don’t take photos of my buffet food, but I did on this day. Loaded with carbohydrate goodness. ..BTW, I know this isn’t good for me.

DSC02742.jpg

Everything was pretty good, but the eggs were gross. Runny and mushy and ick. But otherwise, it was a good meal. And the coffee was that nasty Nescafe stuff.

I am going to give this and Edna rating

Nothing spectacular, but decent food that filled you up.

We really liked the food. It was like regular BBQ food. Hamburgers, hot dogs, chicken and ribs. The ribs were especially good. The kids really loved the hot dogs. We ate … a lot. And we were stuffed and happy and headed back to the ship.

I am going to give this a Mrs. Incredible rating

We really enjoyed the food here and we left stuffed and happy.

Drinks at Pink

When it was about time for dinner, we went to get the kids from their clubs, but they said they had already eaten and didn’t want to go to dinner. And who are we to argue ?? So we went to dinner alone. Well, we had our tablemates, but our kids weren’t there and that was nice.

So we decided that we would head over to Pink beforehand and get some pre-dinner drinks

Champagne bubble lights.

Pink-Bubble-Lights.jpg

I am pretty sure that I can’t say on the DIS what this light fixture reminded me of ….

disney-dream-pink-453x336.jpg

We ordered a glass of Iron Horse Fairy Tale Celebration Cuvée.

IMG_6093_b.jpg

And it was pink and bubbly and it made me happy. We talked to a very nice couple from New Jersey who had just bought a house in North Carolina and since we had said we were from South Carolina, they asked us lots of questions about the south. It was an interesting conversation. But we enjoyed their company very much.

I am going to give this a Mrs. Incredible rating.

Because who doesn't like pink sparkly things ????

After our lovely pre-dinner champagne at Pink we headed to

Royal Palace

Such a beautiful restaurant. I forgot my camera on this night, so all of these are photos I pinched form the internet.

They brought us some bread and here is what the bread basket looked like.

IMG_0970.jpg

For appetizers, DH ordered • Iced Lobster and Jumbo Shrimp White and Green Asparagus, Micro Greens and Lemon-dill dressing with Horseradish Cream (couldn’t find a photo of this),

and I got the • Double Baked Spinach Soufflé Coated with a Three-Cheese Cream.

DCL_Dream_RoyalPalace_spinachsouffle-goldhaber.jpg

Very rich, but very tasty.

We each got

Disney-Dream-french-onion-soup-500x333.jpg

I just love French onion soup and this didn’t disappoint.

For our entrée, DH ordered - Roasted Wild Boar Tenderloin - sweet carrot and onion potato cake with a red currant reduction.

dream_dmk15.jpg

Which he said was very good. He talked about this a lot in the days after.

I ordered - • Royal Palace Aged Angus Grilled Beef Tenderloin and Lobster Medallions Sautéed Snow Peas and Marquis Potatoes with a Cognac Reduction

5396668690_31b29d4c92.jpg

Mine didn’t have the lobster on it because I am allergic, but it was very tasty. The beef was very tender. I enjoyed it very much.

In the middle of our entrée, they called our wave phone from DD’s club and said she was ready to be picked up, so when DH was finished, he went to get her. They came back just in time for dessert. DD got a Mickey Bar and the waiters gave her some cupcakes, too.

DH ordered • Tahitian Vanilla Crème Brûlée With Macaroon

Disney-dream-creme-brulee-500x333.jpg

He really liked this, and I had a bite and it was good.

I ordered – • Grand Marnier Soufflé Infused with fresh Orange Zest and served with Crème Anglaise

Disney-dream-souffle-1-500x302.jpg

So, so good. The soufflé was so fluffy and with the cream, it was amazing. We both had coffee to go with it and the coffee at the restaurants was much better than the coffee you got at the drink stations or at Cabanas. I think they actually brewed it at the restaurants, whereas at the other places, it was Nescafe, which is nasty.

I am going to give this a Mrs. Incredible rating

We loved our dinner at Royal Palace this night. And it was really nice to not have the kids there. And we got some good photos.

After dinner we came back to the room and DS was there. So we watched movies and went to sleep.

Out of curiosity, can you purchase these glasses onboard? LOVE THEM!!

I don't know. I never thought of it !!! I love them too !! They are made of glass and are not those cheap plastic souvenir cups. Pink is a fun little place.

Pink looks so cute! And even though those weren't your pictures, your dinner looked amazing :thumbsup2
