We are staying at WH. Ive seen directions to a Publix in Championsgate. Is this the most convenient one to WH? Also, we live in Texas where I shop at HEB. Does anyone know if Publix is comparable to that? I don't want to go to a superwalmart for a basic grocery shopping, but is Publix a big well stocked grocery store?

It's a very big grocery store, I don't know about HEB so can't compare, but it's about as big as a grocery store gets! The one we go to is on 192, about 3-4 minutes west, and it's on your right (north side of 192).

Hi probably not much difference between the trip times to one on 192 to one in Champion's Gate...like I said earlier, the one to Champion's Gate I call the "scenic tour!!!!"

Enjoy...Ted

We go to the one on 192 west near Orange Lakes.

Check out the bakery it is to die for. We do not purchase any desserts when down I stop in and get a few cakes during our stays and it is a beautiful thing. JMHO

We also go down with approx. 12 individuals at any given time so we are always celebrating some thing. Here is the website for the bakery if you are at all interested. I got it from a fellow Diser.

If you need any suggestions just PM me we have had a few.

Does 192 have access roads? It looks like to get to the closest one on 192 you just take a left on Old Lake Wilson road and then a left on 192. Do we need to get on 192 or just stay on the access road?

Publix is the second highest rated grocery chain in the nation in terms of customer service and customer satisfaction. Very clean, well lit and well stocked stores with helpful staffs. Also, the company's headquarters are about 30 minutes west of Disney in Lakeland, FL.

I didn't know that, but I will say when we were there the other day we were at the deli counter, and we had 3-4 staff all offering to help us, pretty amazing! They were also giving us free samples of everything and going out of their way to be extra nice, now I can see why they're so highly rated! Thanks for sharing that bit of info!

We always stock up at that Publix and like it just fine. But if you're there on Friday or Saturday evening, be prepared for it to be jam-packed! Everyone arriving for their trips is doing the same thing and they get extremely busy.

That's probably why the Championsgate one was suggested. As a local that's the one that I go to

I just heard they're building a Publix right at the entrance way to Windsor Hills in early 2008! There's currently an old, unused orange grove there with a sign up that says "Shops of Windsor Hills - coming 2008" up there, right by the entrance to the resort (the shops are unrelated to the resort in any way).

Publix is supposed to be one of the "anchor" stores and it's also supposed to have higher end boutiques and such in the development, we think this would be a great thing!

We always shop at the Publix on 192 west. The store is very well stocked and clean as others have said. The staff is always friendly. One time an older gentlemen was bagging our groceries and insisted on helping us out to our car as we had two carts. We told him it wasnt necessary but he insisted. We had a very nice conversation with him about his grandchildren and how they come to florida every year to visit and he sometimes he takes them to the magic kingdom. He was so nice we could have chatted with him forever.

We also make it a point to get fried chicken from the deli for one dinner every vacation. My family just loves it. Somebody will always bring it up before we go that they cant wait to have fried chicken from the grocery store!!!

that would be great!!! my brother family always stays at CWR because they have a dog. One close to that area would be wonderful!!!

Publix came to Ala a few years ago. even with Walmart during the grocery store - still love Publix. They are honest - something you don't find often in business. with Walmart and just about everyone else - always and I mean always check the price you think you are getting - with the price on the receipt.

with Publix I have NEVER had that problem.

oh their fried chicken is wonderful.:woohoo:

So that's what they are putting there? Great for you guys that stay at WH or MD but yuck for us locals. There already are 4 Publix's within a 10 minute drive in any direction.

We need a Home Depot

Hi,
I live in Texas also. We don't have HEB's where we live in East Texas but I have shopped at some in San Antonio. I would definately say the Publix on Champions Gate Blvd is comparable with the HEB's I have been to. The Deli area is great and the rest of the store is very well stocked also. For pharmacy items I go across to the Drug Store there.
Hope this helps. Have fun.

Ha! We definitely need a Home Depot closer to WHR, it's like, what, a 20+ min drive down 192 east to get to the closest one? At least they opened up a Lowe's now down on 27 by the Super Walmart, I was just there buying a new toilet last week actually. I wouldn't be happy if they put a Home Depot right outside of WHR though, a Publix is much better for there! The closest Publix is 5+ mins away anyhow down 192 west, would be great if it were super close. Just so long as they don't stick any cheesy t-shirt places there or something, that's my big fear, don't want it looking anything like some of the other parts of 192. Supposedly it's supposed to be a nice, highend type of shopping area, and there were even discussions about putting a high end hotel there I heard, this is all rumour though so don't put much stock in it, I heard about the Publix from the people who work in the Windsor Hills clubhouse last week, they all thought it would be a great thing for the resort to have one so close!

OH! And the other thing that is sorely lacking from the area, and this just amazes me, is a Blockbuster or video rental store! We drove around one night for 45 mins looking for one in the area, there's NONE to be found anywhere close by, which is amazing when you think about how much stuff is on 192. The only option is the video rental machines they might have in Publix, or to buy a DVD at Walmart on 27. We tell people to bring along a DVD for a rainy day when visiting homes in the area just in case, rentals are impossible to come by! (Hint: business opportunity there for someone entrepreneurial that wants to live close by Disney! hehe)

Cheers!
- George
