I see a lot of posts about baby changing facilities in public bathrooms, etc.

I will freely admit, I have yet to see one that I would actually want to place a baby on, let alone let their bare butt touch it. :crazy2:

I admit to being REALLY new at this...am I missing some important step? Should I carry a roll of paper towels with me everywhere to put down first? What do others do?

I changed the kids in their stroller. Sometimes I went back out to the van to do it. If I HAD to use a public changing table I put down a blanket that they didn't get to touch again until I washed it!

I use the changing pad that came with my diaper bag. Some changing tables will have disposable pads. I do avoid it as much a possible. Like yesterday I dropped DD off at gymnastics then came home to change a stinky boy. I live close, so I'd rather come here and do it than the restroom there.

I always carried a small blanket with us to cover the table with.

Hijacking my own thread, but I have to say Noah is SO cute! :)

On a post here on the boards someone had a great idea: she put a terry towel (either an old one or one she got cheaply) down on the changing table. Then if the table was disgusting, she threw out the towel. If it wasn't, she took it home and washed it.

I made it through two kids without ever having to use one of those. They just grossed me out too much. I either changed my kid's diapers in their strollers or went out to the van and did it there. I did have the extra pad that I could put down but I didn' want the baby rubbing their hands along the walls and table. Yuck!

I had a reusable changing pad that I would put down on the table. The disposable pads were nice also. I sure don't miss those days!

I know! Thanks!! :goodvibes We finalized his adoption just this morning! :cool1:

Ok, I might be the minority, but I don't mind them. I perfer them then trying to change the baby in a stroller or a counter they might fall off of.

If there is a paper in it I will put it down (at Rainforst cafe there was the other day, most of the time there isn't)

I normally have a huggies disposable chaning pad in my bag. I normally reuse it, unless it got dirty. I often have antibacitral wipes in my bag too, but mostly I just make sure my babbies butt does't touch it (with out the dipear.)

DITTO! I don't mind them at all. I have never seen a dirty one. I sometimes carry a changing pad, but usually I just change him. His butt never hits - I keep his legs up and he is done in a snap. Just make sure you wash his/your hands after.....

I use the changing pad that came with my diaper bag. If I forget it, I have a few disposable pads for emergencies. I'm not worried about his butt as much as his head. I put his head on the left and if the person before me put the head on the right and didn't use a pad, EW!

Ditto

I always just lined it with paper towel and kept his hands away from stuff, never had a problem.

I don't like them, either, and I change my kids somewhere else any time it's possible. If not, I keep a small receiving blanket in my diaper bag, and I line the table with that. When I'm done with it, I don't put it back in my diaper bag. I use cloth diapers, so I always have bags for dirty diapers with me. I just put the blanket in there. I don't like the diaper changing pads because I don't want to put the changing table germs back in my diaper bag when I'm done. I tried the disposible liners, but they were too small.

I always use the Huggies disposable diaper changing pads. They are kind of small. It usually takes two of them to cover the table. Then, I just toss them in the trash.

My son is way past his diaper days, but, I don't remember ever seeing a dirty changing table. None of the one's I saw ever had paper to put down, so, I used a sheet I would bring in his bag. I preferred to change him in the back of the SUV, though. It was faster and really, believe it or not, more private and less crowded.
