PTR for the planning obsessed....Updated 11/5 We're home now.

Sorry to hear about the tree, but glad everything turned out OK. What a mess it is out there all over the state. We are in Rockingham county. Apparently many people lost power here, but somehow we managed to keep power throughout the whole thing. :confused3 Sounds like you might have been in the same boat.

Have a fun cookout today. Looks like a nice day.

I ordered today's weather for the party....:rotfl:
*breathing hard like I just ran a marathon*....

Ok....haven't read it all yet, but I'm getting there....

Because I'm enjoying it and it's nice to know I'm not the only one who spends this much time and energy in the planning part of a trip!!! :upsidedow

Alright, I'm goin' back in...!:surfweb:

.
Thanks for reading......I hope the links help!

Heidi, I love the artwork! Being an artist, I'm very interested in this kind of stuff and love looking in all the little galleries...I actually bought a painting in China on one of our trips, but I digress.

I love these Disney touches in your home. :goodvibes
Thanks TK....I probably spend way too much time in the galleries drooling !

Heidi - I love all of your artwork! Lots of interesting details... Amy

Tons of details.....I think that's why I don't like the one that I didn't show....no details...just a collection of characters.

:welcome: and Thank you
.....isn't planning half the fun???? I hope to get back out to Dinseyland once they finish all the up grades to DCA.
That's what I am waiting for too. We were planning to go this February but we decided to wait until all the upgrades are done. I can't wait to go someday, neither of us have ever been.

I LOVE YOUR ART! Oh my goodness! Especially that last one, how cool is that. I want one! Wherever did you find it? I need to make sure I have some extra money for a poster. :yay: You said that you just carry on the poster tube on the plane, right?

Those posters are very neat!!!

That last one!!! Wow!!! I love the look of it -- it also reminds me of some of Mary Blair's concept work! Where did you find it online?

The artwork is great. And it's such a good idea to just buy the posters and have them framed. I think I'm going to get a couple for T and Jack's bedrooms and my classroom.

The last poster is fantastic. I love all of the villians. Who is the artist? I'd love to buy a print.

Well I think I spoke/wrote too soon. By 2pm it had stopped raining and the pavement was actually starting to dry off. Liam and I headed out to go grocery shopping. By the time we were checking out, it was pourng again. By the time our groceries were bagged, it was like a monsoon. I ran like a fool out to my car, got soaked it the process of getting Liam into his carseat and the bags into the back. By the time I got belted in, the rain let up. We drove the 10 minutes home. There we had a surprise.....and not the good Year of a Million Dreams kind of surprise. I stopped dead in my tracks (really the tracks of the SUV) at the bottom of our driveway. At the top of the driveway about 30 feet of a dead tree had fallen and was perched on the roof of a little shed and the power line. Thankfully the powerline didn't snap. After a round of calls between me, DH (at work) and the electric company it was decided it was safe for me to go in the house. We didn't lose power so that was a good thing. A few hours later (there was a lot worst damage around the state) the power company came and got the tree off the line and fixed whatever they needed to fix. I'll admit, I was :scared1:

All is well now....we've been busy getting the house and yard ready for our annual cook-out on Saturday. Have a great weekend everyone!

:scared1: I'm glad the house is okay, and more importantly, that you and your fam are!

I love those posters, and I agree with everyone else that the last one is fabulous! Where do you go to get your framing done?

I'm IN LOVE with this one!

This is an signed original copy (I don't know the correct term but it's like those Andy Warhol copies he did in his "factory"). I saw the original on a cruise ship auction. They were starting the bidding at $800....too rich for my wallet. So when I got home I checked online and found this copy. $88!

I used to work in an art store where we carried prints, originals and did custom framing, so I thought I'd share some info and tips (I hope you don't mind. If you do, let me know and I'll delete the post):

*Original is usually the term for the piece that is just that - the original one (in whatever medium - oil, watercolor, etc.) that the prints are made from. In terms of purchasing price, the most expensive and, in many cases, it is priceless (think - Mona Lisa).

*A print is a copy of the original, in a "flat" format, meaning, if it were originally an oil, it would be like a picture of it, it wouldn't have the raised brush strokes, etc. When prints are signed and numbered, they usually become much more valuable because
a.) the artist has signed it and
b.) the number represents how many of the prints will be made; once those prints are gone, rarely is another set made EVER.
You can also get a print of a signed copy (I'm not sure which you have - I couldn't tell from your post) which normally doesn't have any special value other than this - it's just as gorgeous and the originally signed print and much less expensive to use for decorating!!!

*In terms of matting and framing, if you're doing an inexpensive print that really has no value, it can be cheaper to do it yourself. It's pretty simple (and I know you're super-duper crafty). If you want some tips on that, PM me and I'll send them on over!
If something has monetary value (signed and numbered, etc.) or is old (photographs, etc.) it should ALWAYS be mounted with acid-free mats (regular mats may bleed and will fade) and, whenever possible, should be covered with UV glass to prevent damage to the piece.
Oversized pieces (there is an actual measurement that qualifies something as oversized, though my brain is leaving me fruitless as to what it is at the moment), glass should never be used. Only Plexi. Glass is far too heavy. These pieces will almost always cost an arm and a leg. And maybe your first born.
Last two things about framing/matting - original oils should never have glass over them and when framing a newspaper cutout, ALWAYS mount it onto a black mat. Newsprint is the cheapest paper made and the print will fade over time. If you mount it on a light mat, the wording fades off onto that and bleeds through. Not so with a black mat.

Ok. Hijack over. Hope that was helpful. :goodvibes

Tink and TK....I found another one by the same artist that you might like:

Tink's post made me want to look into my Villains print a little more.
The piece is titled "Villains" (how original!) by Robert de Michiell. It is a serigraph on white paper. Hand signed and numbered by the artist and is numbered 110/150.
The artist also had a Pincocchio piece that I now want.... here's a link to look at that one.

I'm glad you didn't mind that I posted all that. It's just something that people don't tend to know a lot about and framing is an expensive business. I hate to hear about people being who'd been blindsided and totally overcharged or who'd done something to a piece they'd had that essentially ruined it.

I appreciated the info! On my back burner is getting prints of something-or-other to decorate my still mostly blank walls. I'd planned to probably do the framing myself or take them to someplace like Michael's, but now whenever I get said prints, I'll have an idea of what is and is not appropriate.

Glad to hear you are oK minus the suprise in your drive....and that your house sustained no damage!:goodvibes Hope your cookout was dry and a success!

Thanks for sharing your wonderful artwork. They are so unique and nice. I will have to take time to stare at them some more!

PS we have a Mickey Mouse bathroom too for the kids...just awaiting a wallpaper chair-rail border, my attempts at doing a sponge paint border failed too many times.

Oh and I don't know if I ever said but your trip planning charts and stuff were great...I must really look into UG and touring plans for the next one!

I didn't mind at all. Sharing info is the best way to learn something new!

The cook-out went well....no rain! We only had 20 people show up this year which was a bit disappointing but I was able to chat with my friends more because of it.

I got DIS Disney mail yesterday!!!!! Scrappie-Do was kind enough to collect park maps and times guides for me during her recent trip. I'm planning a craft project with them....and yes I will post pictures of it when it's done. Included with the park maps that Scrappie-Do sent was a copy of the brochure for kids under 5 which I had never seen before. I'm going to go thru it and make sure I haven't missed any toddler friendly attractions for DS. Thanks again Scrappie!
