PTN for Non-Parade Lovers Worth the Wait?

Im not typically a huge parade fan. I'll often use the crowd-draw times for parades to hop in a less crowded standby line. People seem so over-the-top impressed with Paint the Night, however, that I am wondering whether this parade appeals to even people who are generally parade-apathetic.

Have you ever seen the Main Street Electric Parade or SpectroMagic? PtN is very similar in concept, but the next generation in technology. So if you liked either of those parades, you'll probably like PtN. Also, if you like Pixar movies, PtN features them pretty heavily.

You should probably phrase your title as a question or put a ? at the end. It seemed like you were just stating that it is worth the wait.

If you don't like parades, including light up electrical ones, I don't see why it would appeal to you. Aside from some neat LCD and electrical effects, I personally didn't think it was "over-the-top" better than soundsational. But light up effects are enough to dazzle for some. You might want to just walk by it on your route to other rides to see for yourself if you don't want to spend time waiting for a good spot. You can always just check it out on youtube as well, since you don't seem like you'd care if anything was spoiled for you.

I ordinarily skip the parades, but I'd heard enough great things about Paint the Night that I made the effort to see it. I loved it. So yes, I think it's worth it, especially if you can stay to see the second parade of the night.

I'm not normally into parades but I really enjoyed PTN. I don't know that I'd sit around for any longer than hour to wait for it though.

I wouldn't camp out for it, but if there's a late parde those are usually less crowded so you might try and grab a seat for that.

We are a pair of tall adults and we got a decent view from about three rows back near the Jolly Holiday Bakery at the end of Main Street, no spot saving required! We also caught it with kids one night by catching the Train at the Main Street Station as the parade was passing. Unless you want to try for a front row seat to interact with the characters on their floats, I would suggest checking it out in passing rather than saving seats.

Thank you to everyone for the thoughtful replies. We will have our daughters (9 and 12) with us, and while tall for their ages, they are still shorter than the average adult. We may just play it by ear and decide whether there is a time we are willing to sit and save a spot or a time that works for finding a last-minute so-so view. I may let my DH and DD call the shots on this since I call the shots on getting to F! and WOC way early!

Dh doesn't particularly care about parades. He hates the Electric Light Parade because of the repetitive music- and as far as the visuals felt like once was enough. He liked Spectromagic more, but again was once and done as he doesn't like the waits for the parades. He went nuts over PTN. He loved it. He loved the technology of it. We saw it twice on our July trip. I don't know if you are going at a time when they have a late parade, but last summer they were running it twice a night and we were able to get a great spot on main street just 15 minutes before start time. DD (9) is also fairly parade apathetic- she likes them once she is watching them but she doesn't have the patience for a long wait if she has seen the parade before- and she loved it too.

We will be there the week before Christmas, and we are willing to watch the late parade. Are there other spots besides Main Street where we could get a good view without too much of a wait?

We like parades well enough but also didn't want to wait for this one. About 20 minutes before the start, we walked into the center space where Main Street loops around in the front of the train station. In that area, there was plenty of room to sit or move around, and when the parade reached us, we just stood on one of the canon platforms and had a perfect view.

DH isn't a parade fan, but really enjoys PTN. We aim for the later show and have never had to wait more than about 10 minutes for a great view (and I'm short, so this is a big deal!). If you don't have to be seated on a curb or a bench, you will have much more freedom in choosing spots. If people are seated on the curb, your DDs will still be able to see over their heads from the second row. Another option is to eat at Jolly Holiday, especially on the raised level, so you can have a snack/meal while the parade goes by. You won't have the greatest view, but it will be good enough for you to know whether investing more time for a better view would be worth it.

I had no intentions of waiting as my husband is not a huge disney person (he is now converted). we got a spot near a walkway off of main street our first night randomly coming from a ride. we ducked under the rope and had a great view. We both did enjoy it, I normally skip the parade in MK as I hate to wait for a parade too. I liked the music that changed with each group and the dancers that coordinated with them. the technology was good too so I would wing it and see if you can get lucky with a spot not on Main St. We also did that the first night and fireworks the 3rd night so we didn't have to wait for a main st view for the fireworks.
