PSA-Scary Parade Stampede

I guess this is geared at informing fellow Disers of a potential parade danger.

When we were at MK on 10/1, we were strolling down Main St. just before the first Spectromagic parade. Although we didn't plan on staying for the parade, we said what the heck, why not wait and watch. We were happy to stand behind those who had staked out territory ahead of time. After a few minutes of the parade, we felt a few raindrops. Within 2 minutes, there was a torrential downpour and the folks on the curb began to scramble and run back under the building awning. BUT, there were already people back there, including my family. I had a few moments of terror as people were stampeding to get back out of the rain. My DH was trying to protect our 1 y.o., while I was trying to help DH brace against the rush.

So, if you're on the curb for a parade, and it starts to rain, please remember that it is just rain. Staying dry is not worth crushing the people behind you. For those stuck in the path of the stampeding hordes, good luck and save your family.

I have a story about that! I was watching DCT on my day off down on Main Street. All of a sudden it starts to POUR! People start running for the exit. Unfortunately, there are 20-ton floats coming. The PAC people are running trying to stop people from dashing across the street. So please, if it starts to rain- DO NOT run into the street!! It is VERY dangerous.

I can beat this...kinda.
DH and I have seen Wishes many many times...so we use that time to do a ride before the park closes (like doing the Jungle cruise...with the boat all to ourselves!)

Anywho...we leave...head for main street...and walk through the shops to get out (instead of the street) As we exit (near the Town Hall) Wishes ends, and people start RUNNING to the turnstyle to get out of MK and onto the first transportation out.

I was mortified.

You're right. A very bad time is after Wishes, or in between the first Spectro and Wishes (when there are 2 Spectros). Then loads of people make a mad dash out of the MK. I say wait a bit and let the crowd lessen. I think it is too dangerous otherwise.
