Just a head's-up regarding the detour route.....:hyper:

From personal experience during the ToT 10 Miler, a caution for those considering the McDonald's detour for a McFlurry or breakfast, burger, fries, coffee, soda, salad, bathroom break, whatever.....

After exiting right, the exit ramp is a nice downhill left curve that can lead to a face-plant if not cautious. :rolleyes1

The traffic light might take a bit of time to change to green and it can change back to red very quickly. A 6:00mpm pace could come in handy crossing the road.

Once in McDonald's, your perspiring on the floor while people are looking at you can be unnerving and yucky but just think- not too many people will be able to say they stopped at McDonald's during the Mickey Marathon. :thumbsup2

The ramp leading back to the race is a wicked-short but steep curve to the right that is best taken far right because of camber. Once at top EXERCISE CAUTION when merging with racers. Use left arm out signal as you merge to prevent fender benders from occurring. :rotfl:

p.s.-maybe an extra .5 mile for detour

Slow down due to weather conditions but above all--HAVE FUN!

Good luck to ALL

Exercise care as you come down that ramp. You never know who will want to road rage as they see you pass them while they wait for that light.

I have a question on the return route. Can you cross country back up the slope and avoid back tracking by using the paved entrance ramp? From sat and Google Street photos it looks clear and like a little less slope it you angle up. With little rain over the last week, it should not be muddy. If you see a Rental car parked along Osceola on Friday just past the bridge... It's me.

Probably could. :thumbsup2 I really haven't considered a cross country route since I have enough trouble remaining vertical on the roads. Fell at W&D and at ToT but then they were at night.

Could be from the offset weight of the McFlurry creating balance issues

You guys are too funny.... could you grab me a burger while you're down there? :)

As someone that has obviously taken my prior marathons FAR too seriously I am looking forward to Sunday and love all of the "side adventures" I keep hearing about during the marathon.

You are way fun!

I have a built in flashing sign on my event days that clearly indicates "will stop for Starbucks!"

Anyone planning to ride Expedition Everest as we go through AK?

I understand sometimes bib wearers get line cut privileges.

AK won't be open when I go by so sadly no. I wanted to do this, but with the course change, my guess is I'll be going through AK around 8:30am or earlier, 30 minutes before they open. I guess they could surprise us and have the roller coaster open, but I doubt it. If they do, I'm hopping on!

It will be tougher with the new course configuration. Most will pass prior to the park opening.

I don't think I'll go to McD's, but I am planning on taking a page out of my Ironman racing book and bringing some $ for a Coke if I see vending machines at WWOS. Though, I'm thinking that the soda vending machines I've seen there might all be inside buildings....so McD's is not completely off the table.

Tiger Lily...I thought the consensus was that most runners will be through AK before it's open. I'd love to ride EE during the race...wanted to last year, but was hurt and dropped out at mile 8.

Weebles wobble but they don't fall down:rotfl:

This old goat ain't no Weeble, that's for sure. Thinking about some custom made training wheels if my horizontal adventures continue. I built them for the bikes we customized for kids and adults with CP and SB.

I'm starting back with the Balloon Ladies again this year and taking my time so I might catch EE in addition to McD. Look at that, it rhymes

Sorry, I do remember that discussion now you mention it.

Well, the fasties will be through oh so early, too bad for me the back-of-the-packer that I am. I will not have enought time to do this at all. Dang.

My Corral starts at 6:03am. I am undertrained so more than even finishing I want to have fun. My plan is morphing as time goes on......but here are some things I want to do.
1. Stop for Woody(DS21months favorite)
2. Stop for Buzz
3. Ride Everest (conditional)
-If I see that my pace is around 15 mpm or 17 mpm. Ideally if I am going 15mpm I would feel like I would have enough cushion to pull it off and keep going. If I was closer to 17 mpm average up to that point it would be more of celebrating that I made it to half marathon and let the chips fall where they may(sweeper wise) for the rest of the race. If I have been keeping 16 mpm I may skip it because I would feel like I would have a better chance of finishing.

Remember the Green Army guy at mile 21.2

Do you think they will expand the cut-off for the Marathon due to the higher temperatures to encourage people to take it easy? The stop at Mickey D's is tempting! I have never been adventurous during a Disney race but this seems to be the year to take it all in.

It all depends on the street and park permits. Even though we all think Disney controls the roadways, they are public roads and permitting requires coordination with the Orange County SD and FSP. Likewise, the park management has a little say in how long the race can occupy a lane in the park.

I would think that if the RD has any flexibility, you may see an extension. The question is do you really want the typical BOP out in the heat longer. A more likely modification to the race would be a progressive cutting out of the WWoS lollipop (lollipop = an out and back with a loop at the far end). I could see the race cutting out the WWoS loop section at a certain time, forcing the later runners to u-turn and have a true out and back. It would be possibly to even pare back the out and back length. It would miff those who miss the WWoS, but would be a safe way to heard folks back in the same timeframe.
