Just a reminder that the USDA recommends that if you plan to thaw your turkey in the refrigerator, allow 24 hours for every 4 to 5 lbs. Thawed birds can safely stay in the refrigerator for 1 or 2 days prior to cooking.

So, you're going to want to move that gobbler to the fridge soon if you have a BIG bird for next Thursday. I bought my 24 pounder today and it's already taking up the entire bottom shelf of my side by side.

I have bad memories of cleaning out the cavity and grabbing onto a great big chunk of ice. :scared:

I have a 20 lb turkey. I pulled it out yesterday morning to start thawing.

:scared1: Thanks for the reminder, mine's 20lb, I need to make some room in the fridge!

Going to go out and buy my turkey this morning. I'll put it right in the fridge! :thumbsup2

Thanks for the reminder!:thumbsup2
Gotta make some room in the fridge this morning.

It just dawned on me this morning that I need to buy my turkey so it can thaw in time for thursday. So off to the grocery store today.

Our 22 lb. turkey went in the fridge yesterday. Is that ok? I am somewhat new to being the one cooking on Thanksgiving, well at least for this size group.

Hopefully ours is still walking around living the good life as we are vegetarians. :rotfl2:
My daughter is right there with you! The biggest challenge is to come up with a suitable protein substitute for her. Fortunately, she is not picky and she enjoys the holiday because it's more about the family than the food.

Hope that your tofurky is tender and moist!

Thanks!.

We are doing a ham too. I need to go buy that. I think I need more time between now and Thanksgiving, lol!

BIL is bringing a smoked ham (he has a smoker) for us to eat too. YUMMY!

It's a lot of work, but it's great to see everyone eating and enjoying themselves.

I only got a breast this year so mine is still in the freezer and will come out on Wednesday night to put in the crock-pot! I am only having 6 plus I also have a ham!

Just moved my turkey from the freezer to the fridge. Thanks for the reminder!:thumbsup2
