Stay in the right lane!

I can't remember if I was in Arkansas or Tennessee, but the speed limit was 70. I was doing 76/77. I come up on a slow moving car in the left lane. Everyone (3-4 cars) in front of me passes him on the right, I do, then at least 3-4 cars after me.

There's a bumper sticker on the back of the car... (paraphrasing) "For safety reasons, this car will not go faster than 65mph". You know what, ok, fine. But if that's case, STAY IN THE RIGHT LANE!

No, they weren't passing anyone, the right lane was clear. And yes, the car had plenty of time to go into the right lane before everyone started passing them.

Sorry, just a vent.

Ahh!! I agree with you so much!!! I highly dislike passing on the right but sometimes people like that make it impossible not to.

People who cruise at or below the speed limit in the left lane of highways were one of the things I hated the most before I quit driving.

It's super fun when the idiot going 55 in a 65 in the left lane realizes their exit is coming up in 1/4 mile (because reading the earlier signs would have been too hard) and then tries to cross 3+ lanes all at once, too.

The rule is pretty simple to understand...right lane is for travel. Left lane is for passing. Period.
That's one of my pet peeves as well. I got behind someone last weekend, in that left lane..three lane highway, speed limit of 65. There were probably about 5 cars between me and the car that was just ambling along in the far left lane....not many cars in the middle lane at all, so no reason not to move over. Well, the cars in front of me kept moving to the right and passing that first slow poke. But still...he lingered. When I got behind him, I waited for him to move..he had a ton of space and could have moved over easily. He didn't. So on went my right directional, and over I moved, got past him and left directional went on and right in front of him I swerved!! It was safe to do, but it probably scared the bejeebers out of him!!! He immediately moved over to that middle lane. Within about 20 seconds, I had a huge line of cars move up right behind me. That guy must have had 30 cars stuck behind him. And yes, I moved over for them!!!

Naughty, naughty! Two wrongs don't make a right. ;)

Good lord do I agree! Yesterday was just horrible with it coming back from the outlet mall! What I had forgotten was that there was a HUGE concert at the Fair (Florida Georgia Line) and it is Race Weekend... and to get home I had to join all of the idiots going in those directions. So many people with huge motor homes or beat up pickups pulling a trailer with a golf cart and coolers. All just chugging along in whatever lane they feel like at whatever stupid speed they feel like. Going 55-60 in a 70 zone. I am sorry, but not only should you get out of the left lane, but maybe you should get off the dang interstate if you can't get that thing anywhere NEAR the speed limit. You are only going to get people killed!

Consider yourselves lucky if you get to drive 60 mph on the freeway. In Seattle you usually don't get above 30 mph. Unless you are driving at 3:00am. :)

I drive south to Portland, OR on I-5 sometimes and you can't open it up to 70mph until you get 80 miles south of Seattle.

In Michigan there is talk of raising the speed limit to 75 or 80. I shudder to think what will happen if someone who will only go 65 drives through our fair state if that becomes law!!!

Not that I am too thrilled with a higher speed limit. My nephew drives 75-80 routinely, and when I am with him my hands are clenched on the seat the whole time!:scared: It feels fast!

I was chugging along on the Long Island expressway yesterday. Everyone doing around 70. When the lane next to me everyone slams on their breaks. I slow down and keep an eye out for an accident or something in the road. No some idiot doing around 50 in the middle lane

Sam we don't always agree, but on this your right on!:thumbsup2

New Jersey has signs that say 'KEEP RIGHT | PASS LEFT', yet you wouldn't believe how many people (especially out-of-staters) use the left lane as a travel lane, doing at or under the speed limit! How is anyone supposed to get past you?!

In NJ it's a $200+ fine for putzing along in the left lane without passing anyone. If they stop you.

Unfortunately, around here you are likely to see a car in the left lane doing the speed limit or slightly under with a "Student Driver" sign on top of it.

Rules of the road are so far out of whack they don't even know how to teach them properly nowadays.

Oh don't I know this!!! I drove 195 from Howell to Trenton and back twice last week and could NOT wait to get off the road. It was terrible! (That's why DH brought a crossword puzzle to do so he didn't have to watch where we were going. :rotfl: That's what he said!)

It is desirable to drive in the left lane when your exit is on the left, for example on Epcot Center Drive (continuation of 536) west towards the middle of WDW (World Drive, Magic Kingdom, etc.)

You don't want to be caught on the right side in a pack of cars heading to Epcot proper in the main lanes.

I'll agree with that, but that wasn't the case in the OP. We were miles from any town much less city.

If your exit is on the left in 1/2 mile, sure. If it's in 10 miles, get out of the way. Don't be like my mother, driving 3 hours in the left lane because she knows she has to take a left exit eventually.

This is why I like New Hampshire... We don't just have a speed limit, but we also have a speed minimum. So if you're going 75 in a 55 - 65 zone, you get a ticket. If you're going 45 in a 55 - 65 zone, you get a ticket. Driving too slow or constantly slamming on the breaks is just as dangerous as speeding.
