just like you are supposed to assume that its the womens 29TH birhtday when she tells you that today is her birthday (or 39th for more "mature" looking women)

the only way out of that is to cut off a finger and give it to her for pennance!

Ugh. I feel for you. My DD6 is in that "blurt everything you are thinking out loud" phase and she thinks all larger people r having babies, all Asian people speak Chinese (she even asked one lady....I about died)......so we are constantly having the keep your thoughts to yourself, whisper to mommy, everyone is different conversation. You'll recover

Ha Ha...I've been there before...on both ends of it.

When DS8 was about 5 days old, we went to visit him in the NICU. Of course, I was still huge from having him a few days earlier, and this lady asks me on the elevator when my baby is due. "Um, he's 5 days old". That was a very long 5 floors for the lady on the elevator with me.

I got asked this when I ran into someone while walking through a crowd with my DH who was holding our 5 week old baby. I wasn't even that big!

A few years back, we got a new trainer where we work. I went to training with the maintenance staff (I work in the office for them), which was entirely male. We look at the trainer, and one of them whispered to me, "Is she pregnant or just fat." My (male) reponse was, "I have no idea, and I'm not asking." He agreed. So everybody just sat there, not asking.

She gave birth a few weeks later.

This happened recently at my local pharmacy. I was sitting there waiting for a prescription along with a young girl who did look pregnant. One of her acquaintences came in and asked her when the baby was due. She replied that she had had the baby 4 months ago. Oops.

I took someone's order yesterday, picked up their menu, said thank you and they said to me, "OOOH!! when are you due??"


I said:


"I'm not. apparently i'm just fat."





It's not just you, don't worry. I've worked at this restaurant for 8 months and have had probably 5 or 6 people ask me when i'm due.

I asked a friend of mine that I knew was pregnant , but had not idea when she was due, when was the baby coming Unfortunately i was about 2 months late .. UGHHHHH!!!!

Another question never to ask/say: Are you with your grandma/grandpa? When it's actually the parents. I had a co-worker say to a young girl "ask your grandma if it's ok" the little girl replied thats my mom....Very bad but it was funny after they left. I informed the co-worker there are two thing you never ask: When are you due? Are you with your grandma?

When I was working as an occupational health nurse, an employee, who had gotten married the year before came in for a blood pressure check. She looked quite pregnant and was even wearing a smock type top! Assuming she was getting a BP check because she was pregnant, I did it. I asked her when she was due. I felt awful, but it opened a conversation. She was never thin but had gain about 60 pounds since the last time I saw her, all in her mid section. Her blood pressure was elevated, her heart rate was fast, her hair and skin very dry. I told her that I was concerned about the changes and referred her to her gynecologist. After a lot of tests, she was diagnosed with Cushings Disease. She had surgery, they removed a tumor from her adrenal gland and she was cured. It was so insidious and the people that she saw everyday didn't really notice it because it occurred over time. She ended up leaving the company during a downsizing but a year after that I ran into her. I couldn't believe my eyes. She had gone from a size 16-18 to a size two. Her hair was thick and shiny and she was absolutely beautiful. Sometimes things get blurted out for a reason...but not too often.
