PS4 online play

Hi all, my ds is getting a playstation 4 for christmas. He has an x box and I"m familiar with buying the xbox live cards for playing on line. How does it work with a playstation? I'm looking on Amazon and see they have Playstation store gift cards, but I can't figure out how it works? Like the xbox live code you buy a certain number of months or a year's worth of online play. Please explain to me how it works with PS. Thanks

Forget it I found it, its the 1 year plus membership. Ok then are there ever any deals on this? I see amazon has the one year for 50 bucks.

With the PS4/PS3 there are two routes you can take. The first is to buy a membership(3 months/1 year) which gives you extra discounts and/or free games monthly. I have gotten some very good games for free on PS+.
The second route is to buy game cards with values of $20/50/100 which you can use to buy time for on line games (i.e.:$1.99 for 4 hours $4.99 for 24 hours ect.)or buy the game out right but no discount unless you are a member of the PS+ club.
The free games on PS+ change monthly and discounted games are released on Tuesday's around 3 p.m , as well from time to time they have flash sales on certain types of games or publishers.
