PS2 or XBOX

Are there any thoughts to which one is better than the other?

Thank you.

I prefer the XBOX. I seem to get better graphics, and better loading times with XBOX

My DS12 has both of these, it seems that the XBOX games are more oriented towards older children and teens but the PS2 has more games for younger children. Just my 2 cents!

DS 17 loves PS2
There is quite a variety of games for this system. He has the other systems, but PS2 is his favorite.

I would prefer PS2 due to game selection but if you are talking graphics XBOX wins on that.

However, I am always playing the GC, so go figure.

We love our Xbox. Its great for my 9 year old, and my 7 year old plays it also.

There are a lot of sport oriented games on the Xbox, that my son likes.

I prefer the PS2. Even though the graphics may not be top-line, all the hottest games usually come out for PS2 first, like Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, which I love :)

Oh, also IF you pick up the PS2, try & get the new slim-line version... here's a pic of the old & new versions:

Which system would you recommend for an almost 6 year old? I'd be interested in more sports or other non-violent games. Which system has more of those types of games? I'm not terribly concerned with the graphics, just the games that are available.

I have an almost (5 days shy) 6 year old, and he loves the PS2. They have some great games for the "younger" video game crowd, his current favorit is Transformers.

I looked at the Xbox when shopping, and it really is aimed more at older kids and adults.

I love my PS2, but I've played on a friend's XBox and liked it. I like that you can load your own music on it and listen to that rather than the game music. It's kind of cool!

You can always go for broke and get both! ;)

You decide:

PS2.... a "slightly" younger group of players. Way more games of all varieties, works as a stand alone DVD player, has oline play available. I'm 42 and still play PS2.

XBOX -- Way LESS games, Better graphics, geared to a slightly older crowd. Better at online play than PS2. To be a DVD player you need to buy a remote control. I'm 42 and still play XBOX.

I'm 42 and I own, but rarely use, a Nintendo Gamecube.

BTW, in the next year, both systems will be on their way out the door as the "next generation" of each system becomes available.

From what I gather, and this is NOT CONFIRMED, the PS3 will play PS2 games, while the XBOX is not planned to be backwards compatible.

These current systems are a geat value for the money. The new systems, with a lot of new features, are expected to be at least $300, and possibly as much as $500 when they get released.

EDIT: BTW, in rereading your post, for a 6 year old I would get a Nintendo Gamecube! And if he or she has a GAMEBOY, there is an adapter for the GAMECUBE that allows them to play GAMEBOY titles on it, and see them on a TV screen.

Nintendo's GameCube is wonderful! It has a ton of fantasy games for children that are non-violent. Pete loves all of the Zelda and Mario games. :teeth:
