This weekend our family attended a winter retreat with our karate organization, which included 6 hours of workout on Sat. and 2 on Sun.. I was very happy that both DS6 and DS8 were able to stay with it to the end on Sat., we could tell they were starting to lose focus, but they stayed with the group and kept trying. The rest of the kids in our group, had stopped trying and were just off in a corner playing. At the end of the weekend many of the masters who had worked with our group made a point of stopping the boys to tell them what a nice job they did and they were proud of them for how hard they worked.
The other nice thing I saw was that when we broke into smaller groups DS8 was very comfortable being in a group with stangers, at one point I looked over there and he was leading the group and showing them moves and explaining them to the adults in his group. It amazes me how much he has learned and grown in the 6 mos. he has been in karate. DS6 is also learning a lot and is starting to gain a lot of self confidence that wasn't there before, he is even starting to volunteer to lead the basic moves in our regular classes, which is a big step for him.
