Protecting A Laptop at Resort?

I will be bringing my laptop down with me for my trip this fall. I will use it for entertainment on the plane and storing digital photos on etc... How can I protect my laptop and make it secure? What I mean is I notice when Mousekeeping is cleaning the rooms they open 2 rooms or so at a time and they can only watch the room they are in obviously. I understand they do it for efficency, but I dont want to lose my laptop over someones dishonesty and "sticky fingers". I was thinking of "locking" it up in my suitcase and slidding it under the bed or so? But who is to say someone couldnt swipe a suitcase and walk out too? My laptop is tooooo large to fit in that wall safe also. I know "if it is that questionable and that valueable then dont bring it". I was just curious if anyone else had suggestions or wanted to share how they protect their laptop.

Buy a cable lock for a laptop and loop it around a piece of furniture.

There is no way to protect a laptop at the resort other than bringing it down to the lobby for storage in the hotel safe.

A cable lock will prevent quick pilferage but does not protect against damage.

You are correct but for most people damage in the hotel room is not the problem. It is theft of the laptop. The cable lock will help deter the theft. It is also not a good idea to leave it out where people can see if they walk by the room when the door is open.

Add your laptop to your homeowners policy- I did this & cost is $12 a year-protected against theft and basically anything the warranty doesn't cover-might want to look into it- you do however need a rider to your insurance for this coverage.

Of course, don't forget to make sure that your laptop is password protected. You don't want someone ordering a $6000 TV from a web site that you remembers your credit card numbers.
