Pros/Cons of taking the Bigger Stroller

For our next trip we are really leaning towards taking our Peg Perago Venezia instead of our Combi Savvy. I have thought of some pros and cons of taking the bigger stroller. Please let me know if I am missing anything.

PROS
1. Better reclining for naps at the parks.
2. Has better storage underneath.
3. Bigger shade to protect from the sun.
4. Stroller can face either way.

CONS
1. Bulkier and Heavier to carry on busses and airport.


Is there anything I am not thinking of?

For me, I am more comfortable pushing our larger stroller. The handles are lower on our umbrella strollers and I'm not comfortable pushing it for any length of time (have to slouch).

I'm all over the better storage part! Plus, does your bigger stroller have places for drinks? I like not having to carry anything, even in a backpack slung over *my* back.

Anyway you slice it, you're going to be carting around a stroller and yes, the bigger one will be bulkier and heavier, but the duration of your trip is going to be spent tooling around the parks,right?

For the record, my DH hates taking the stroller on the plane, etc... so we just rent a double stroller at the parks . Our boys are 5 & 7 - they fit into the rental strollers really well.

We are staying off site, so we will primarily use a car, so the bus system isn't a big concern for us.

We thought about shipping our big stroller (about $60-$70 total round trip), renting one from a baby supply store (Same cost as shipping!) {never considered the hard non-reclining plastic ones at the parks- blech}, and taking it along won - to save money AND to save our backs at the airports!

Ditto on the taller handle being more comfortable to push.

McGrawfan, I was wondering the same things about bringing our Quattro stroller this summer for my (going to be) 2 yr old, so thank you for starting this thread! I think loopner is right: there will be no perfect stroller to take, so just take what you're comfortable with. The bulkiness of the stroller will be nothing compared to the benefits in the parks and the comfort for my son having something familiar to tool around in.

I'm planning to lug the big one (Graco Quattro Tour) for all the reasons mentioned. I like the cup holders, big sun shade, and big storage basket. I also like that it doesn't tip over if I leave my diaper bag on the handle! I'm going in May, so I'll post a stroller report when I get back!

We took our "big" stroller last summer and simply put - we will ALWAYS take it with us in the future. For all the reason you pointed out it is worth the extra effort

I think you have it down pretty well. I would also add that the bigger strollers are a bit more durable. We brought our larger travel system stroller becuase I knew we were going to be doing miles of walking. Our umbrella stroller is nice for certain trips, but not for one where dogging threw people, crowds and shopping aisles. Sure it was a bit of a burden on the bus, but I am so grateful be brought our larger stroller. I also agree on the storage space. We had our sons extra set of clothes, diaper, wipes, our jackets, a soft cooler with drinks and food and then what ever we bought. It was ideal!

I am still undecided, but I think I'll be taking the bigger one for the following reasons:

1) Basket Space (this really should count as 2 pluses!!)
2) Doesn't tip when she gets out
3) Double cup holder
4) Full recline
5) I already bought the matching navy blue "RayShade" and would really want to get grey if I took the quest (silly, I know!!)
6) Nice snack tray for her

I will WISH I had the quest b/c

1) Much lighter
2) Much smaller (rental car!)
3) Easier for DH to fold (they are the same for me- he just "gets" this one easier)
4) I think she likes sitting in this one a little better

Last 2 trips, she was 3 and 7 months and we took the big one (didn't even have the light one yet). On the 1st trip, we struggled on the busses - on the 2nd trip, we avoided the busses for the most part (rental car and ferry- we were at Boardwalk). I am starting to think if I should take BOTH - but DH will probably kill me! If my Quest had a shoulder, carry strap, that might seriously come into play as a deciding factor - but with out it, I think the big one (Graco Metrolite) wins. I kind of wish I bought the triumph instead of the quest,(that one has a shoulder strap), but I didn't like any of the colors! :-( Maybe I need to go and buy a Volvo???

Like a PP said, there really is no "perfect" stroller - but if you are going to be on the buses a LOT, I'd strongly consider the light one - otherwise, might as well take the big boy.

I agree with all of the PROS listed, however, I am all about ease of travel when we are at WDW. When we brought our big stroller the first trip, I vowed NEVER AGAIN. It was too big, too heavy and it was a nightmare getting it on the busses and trams. We couldn't fit our luggage in the trunk of our rental because of that darn stroller. Now we take a smaller, lighter stroller.

We are going in December with a 5 year old and a 1 1/2 year old. Not sure if we should bring a double (I did this in Oct, but since got rid of the double), or DDs Maclaren Quest Mod single. I LOVE the Quest, but as another poster said, I wish it had a strap for DH to sling it over his shoulder! It does have a handle. It has a storage basket, although it's not that big. But I did buy the Maclaren organizer to hold more bags and I just got the PERFECT diaper bag, so I'm set!

Good luck with deciding! Only you know what is best for your family!!

To think about:

How often will you be using the bus transportation? Will there be someone there to help you with the child and the stroller? Are you going during a time where there will be larger crowds? How well does the stroller hold up to being banged around and folded/unfolded, etc.?

How about the parking lot trams? I found it difficult to get into the trams with my MacLaren Rally Twin.

My DW is due to give birth to our first child our soon to be DS in about a week or two. We already have the Chicco Cortia Travel system which is a stroller/car seat all in one big package, but it is a bit bigger than some. But I have looked at the rental strollers and I think it has more to offer although a bit bulkier. And since I plan to be he primary ‘pusher –o the stroller’ (no offense to the women that push it) J that and carry the baby in the sling if he doesn’t want to be in the stroller. (just call me the pack mule) I figure my DW carried him for 9 months so I have some time to repay. That and I cant wait to hold my DS. But regardless. We are DVC members at Saratoga, and I’m just wondering s well… is it worth it?

To dishubby - with a newborn (under 6 or so months), I would highly recommend your regular stroller - not a rental or a lightweight. You'll certainly want the full recline, bigger shade and extra space for toting all the extra stuff you'll need for a littler baby.
I ran that by my DH (for the "man's opinion") as well and he agreed - and added that the backpack diaper bag was a lifesaver when boarding busses, etc (I had the baby and a small bag) and he was in charge of everythig else - the backpack kept his hands pretty free to hold the stroller!

I love it. How old is your child that will be riding in it? We loved it when DD was a little baby because the stroller fully reclines to lay her down and we didn't have to keep her in a car seat. What really sold me was how the handle flips around so it can be a buggy or a stroller. Silly I know, but it is the little things I get a kick out of. It pushes so smoothly. We also have a Combi Savvy which we took on our last trip. It is a great stroller but when she would be napping her poor little legs would just dangle. Our Peg stroller reclines so much better and I think she will be more comfy. It will be a pain on the bus, but so much better in the parks and that is where she will be in it a TON!! Next trip will be DH, myself and DD who will be 2 1/2.

We took both on our last trip (a 3 year old and 1 year old). We have a Maclaren Quest for the 3 year old and used a regular size Evenflo (big basket, cup holder, etc). We are considering another trip and will probably just take the Maclaren for our youngest and if we need it rent for the older one. If you are renting a car, take the bigger one! We had a car, so it was easy to take whatever we needed. We also used the strollers for some of the luggage, car seats, etc in the airport. The first trip, we took our double and won't do that again! I liked having two so we could separate and now the kids are too big for that anyway.

You have great pros and cons- Personally I think it depends on your transportation and how many adults in your group to help carry everything. We use a backpack diaper bag and pass it around through the day or put it in the large basket.
