Can anyone help me with the pros and cons of making a room only reservation? Instead of booking a package in advance?
TIA :)

Packages require a $200 deposit, must be paid in full no later than 45 days before you arrive, and have cancellation and change fees that begin 45 days in advance of arrival.

Room-only reservations require a single-night deposit, are not paid in full until you physically check-in, and have cancellation fees that begin five days out. I don't believe there are any change fees. I've always thought room-only was safer and more flexible, unless there's a compelling discount involved in a given package.

We are annual passholders so packages usually don't make sense for us. But even for my guests, I do room only because of the payment and cancellation policies. Also, check with the package includes because many times, there are things in there you might never use.

I'd also price out room only with your ticket choices and compare them to a package.

Pros for a room only: The reservation has much more flexibility. I get my tickets from Undercover Tourist to save money, eat how I want and where I want (No DDP). It just seems less cumbersome.

Cons for room only: if you change your mind and want to do a dining package, then you have to cancel the reservation to rebook as a package.

Pros for a package: Everthing is paid for in advance (45 day out)

Cons for a package: If you change your mind and want to change any aspect of your vacation after the 45 day mark, there's a fee.

PPs are all correct. The biggest con of room only for me is that you can't add a dining package to room only. And some promos, such as free dining, require a package. Lastly, sometimes vendors like AAA offer discounted tickets when purchased as part of a package. So, if you want to buy tix from UT and do room only, you might make out the same by booking a package through a company like AAA.

This year due to DH's job situation I had to change my package for this September to a room only. I had a military discount with CS. It was easy as she did was talked to a supervisor to change it back to room only before she cancel it. She also told me if things change & I wanted to add the CS called back and tell them not to cancel until they can add. They just have to go to their supervisor. Easy enough. I think we are leaving it as room only as I been sick & not sure if I am able to go as yet.

As far as packages you can change without a fee if you are going higher in cost.Say if you had just CS & wanted TS added they wouldn't change you a fee. I did this one year as well.

I think from now on I will do room only unless I know it is a great discount & if we can afford it & DH has the leave.
