We are staying in POR in mid October. I have heard horror stories about transportation! What are the pros and cons of POR?

WOuld like to know this too?
Staying POR Oct. 10/10-15 for the first time in a moderate.

Anyone?

My DD(13) & I love POR - we've stayed at almost all of the deluxes & @ POFQ, POP, & CSR. We keep returning to POR & just made ressies for Dec.! It'll be our 11th stay there. There are 4 bus stops, & POFQ is picked up & dropped off 1st. We usually go to the South depot @ the main bldg. to catch our buses, as we prefer the AB section & always request AB 27. Sometimes it's crowded, like for special events: MNSSHP or MVMCP, stuff like that, but if it's way crowded, a second bus is normally close behind. We've never had a problem when we've gotten up for early park openings, or when we've left parks before closing. The only consistent problem we've seen is when MK closes on a weekend night right after the fireworks - big line at the bus stop. It's that way @ all of the values usually, too. POFQ has their own bus on those evenings, so you may have to wait for a 2nd bus, but it'll go straight to POR. I get WAY more frustrated with the Epcot resort buses (Swan/Dolphin/YC/BC/BWI) than POR. Hope this helps.:D

We just returned from 11 nights at POR---8-11 to 8-22 ( yes during Charley)

POR is our favorite resort.

the pros are ( IMO )
-boat to DTD
-good food court with variety
-above average resturant ( Boatwrights)
-Outstanding bar with Bob Jackson ( a must see )
-wonderful grounds
-to us..its a moderate +....alomost in between moderate and deluxe.

-the bus service is good...but if at POR go to the main depot. dont wait at the other bus stops...by the time the bus gets there it may be filled up.

- for us...the bus going to the parks in the AM only picked up POR people....coming back it stopped at FQ..( no big deal.)

the ONLY negative for us....( and we have stayed there MANY times)

-AB needs to be renovated. For the first time I saw it was starting to seem worn. We will be back for Thanksgiving and will be requesting to stay in the Mansion section.

When we were there, Patierre Place was shuttered. A CM stated that PP is the last Mansion to be renovated. Then they will start on the AB side.

Enjoy

I stayed at POR for the first time back in March 2004. Would definitely stay there again. Agree with kinggoofy's comments. We didn't have issues with bus transportation in March...maybe if the crowds aren't bad in Oct. you won't have a problem with full busses. Beautiful landscaping in the mansions area. We didn't go explore AB...

Would recommend it. :)

We go in either October or December every year and have never had a problem with the bus, but we always go to the main bus stop, never the remote ones, so I can't say if those are good or bad. We aways stay at POR and absolutely love it. If they closed that resort, I don't think we'd go back every year. It's so relaxing and quiet. I don't think you'll be disappointed.

We are staying at POR for the first time in November and I have a few questions. Which building would you recommend staying in? We would like to be near the main building / restaurants and pool - what building is that? Also, how far is the walk from the bus stop to the buildings?

Thanks for your help.

We like to request AB 14 or 27 to be close to everything when we stay on that side of POR - we've never been lucky enough to get 14, but have stayed in 27 multiple times. It's a few minutes walk to the food court, main bus stop, & main pool. Great location & no chance of getting a parking lot view, regardless of the view you're paying for. When we stay in the mansions, we request Magnolia Terrace - it's a few minutes farther from the food court, but right by the main pool & North bus depot (3rd bus stop). However, just cut through the pool, over the bridge, & through the main bldg. & you're @ the South depot (main one). Check out the resort map for POR on the DIS to get an idea of what I'm talking about. :D

RIDISNEYLOVERS

We have stayed in both the Mansions and AB.
The AB is our favorite ( but see above comments regarding renovation.)

The best buildings on the AB side are 14, 15, 18 and 27. We have found a liking to #27. Its about a 5 minute walk to the food court entrance. ( just before the water wheel)

For the Mansion side...you will have to walk over a bridge regardless of what mansion building you stay in. Its only about an 7-10 minute walk...if that. ( depending on where you are located.)

There are mansions that you walk right out of you room and "boom" a bridge. Partierre Place is located right by a bridge and so is another Mansion...( cant remember right now which one.)

As far as the bus stop goes..we ALWAYS go to the main depot. From the AB side we walk thru the food court, past Boatwrights, and walk thru the Fultons Store and then to the Bus stop.

Its about a 7-10 minute walk...really no big deal.

When in November are you going ?...we will be there again from Nov. 24 - 28th. Requesting a Mansion building this time.

twood and kinggoofy - thanks for your opinions.

We are staying at POR 11/13 - 11/16 after our Disney Cruise. This is the first time we are going to be staying here so I want to be able to get a nice room. We will be with our two girls ages 4 and 1 so I wanted to get something convenient so we wouldn't have to do a lot of walking. (My parents are going to stay at SOG but we opted not to stay there because of the walk and having to change busses at the TTC). I am still tron as to which area we are going to request. I think either Magnolia Terrace or AB building 18 or 27 sounds good - are they NO smoking buildings? I am also going to request to be on the 1st floor because I just can't see us lugging a double stroller, two small kids and all the stuff up a flight of stairs - especially if they fall asleep on the way "home".

This is the reason why I love the Dis so much!! Thanks again for your help.

We just came back From Port Orleans Aug1st -7th, all i can say is, we can't wait to go back. The resort is beautifully laid out with quiet pools and a great main pool with a waterslide, the main area of the resort with the food court, bicycle rentals, boat rentals, you can even rent a horse drawn carriage.
Stop worrying about the negative posts, it has been my experience that the pros far outweigh the cons in any thing you do while at Disney. The bus transportation is one of the best and quickest coming and going, i can't think of a negative thing to say about our stay, it was a wonderful, magical and exciting experience. Don't tell my family but i am already making plans for next year and the Port Orleans is on the top of my list.

HERE..HERE !!!!!!! right behind you in the dance line with the comment about the Pros vs. the cons.

We cant wait to get back in November and NEXT year I have already started the plans for our August trip....

it looks like August 10th - 21st.

its 89 days until our Thanksgiving trip AND 348 days until next August 05.

AB18 is smoking optional, but AB 27 is non-smoking & so is Magnolia Terrace. With little ones, you might want to know that the beds in the AB section are kind of high off the floor - I can't remember if it's the same on the mansions side - anyone know? Request a corner room - you'll get 2 windows & it really opens up the room, in my opinion & allows you to enjoy the beauty of the resort's lush landscaping. Have a great trip! POR rocks!

We were there in early June and I loved it. The bus was great-no problems at all. We also went to the main bus stop.

We loved our corner room in Building 27.

Thank you all for your comments and to disgoer for asking. I was thinking about POR for our May/June 2005 trip, but was somewhat worried about the negative bus comments. I know now that POR is our resort for our summer trip. Great info!! Thanks:wave:
