We are looking at doing a dolphin swim of some description - which would you recommend and why?

Other than the dolphins we have no desire to go to Seaworld - would this just be a waste of a day? We will have 2 kids and an infant with us on the day.

Looking to see what others think, thanks for your help :)

The dolphin swin is not at SeaWorld, it's at their "extra" park Discovery Cove.

Admission to Discovery Cove is sold with and without dolphin swim as the park itself offers a lot more than just swiming with dolphins. There's quite a few more animal encounters in the park, plus it's got a snorkeling lagoon. Basically, you don't just go there for a 30 minue dolphin swim, you go there for a whole day experience. Food is incuded as long as you are in the park. Also, you'll receive free entry to SeaWorld, Aquatica and Bush Gardens for 14 days with admission to Discover Cove.

Admission to Discover Cove varies between $229 and $319 with dolphin swim and $169 and $219 without dolphin swim. To swim with the dolphins, your kids need to be 6 or older. There is no discount for children, however, children 2 and under are free.

Given that Epcot's Dolphin swim is around $200 and you will need Epcot admission on top, you'll get a lot more for your buck if you go during off-season dates and intend with dolphin swim (again, food is included while you are in the park and you have a lot more entertainment going on - plus free admission to the other parks but you said you are not interested in that). However, with Discovery Cove you will have to pay admission even for those who don't want to dolphin swim which is a hefty amount.

I can't compare the experience as I've only done Discovery Cove but I loved the park all the way! We all did the dolphin swim, and went off-season paying $229, so it never was a question to pay $199 for the Epcot experience while we could have a full day, food included, at $229.

We have done both the Dolphins Up Close at Sea World, and Discovery Cove with the Dolphin swim. We (self, DW, DS7 and DD6) went last November. Paid for Discovery Cove and received free 14-day passes for Sea World and Aquatica. We did the Dolphins Up Close at Sea World to get my kids ready for Discovery Cove the next day. Dolphins at Sea World give you a opportunity to feed and interact with the dolphins, but you are never in the water with them. Lasted about an hour or so. I cannot say enough about Discovery Cove. Truly amazing park and experience. I highly recommend it. The Dolphin swim at Discovery Cove, and everything else, is worth the price of admission. As PP said, admission to Discovery Cove includes everything - food, snorkel and mask, sunscreen, all food and drinks - even adult beverages. With the added free pass to Sea World and Aquatica it makes the cost very reasonable.

I'm sorry, I do not have experience with the Epcot dolphin experience. A couple of things I noticed on the Disney web site. "Guests must be 13 years of age or older." You only need to be 6 yrs old for the Dolphin swim at Discovery Cove. "Please note that this is a wading encounter where the dolphins are brought to you in waist-deep water. You will not actually be swimming with the dolphins at any time." At Discovery Cove you spend most of the time in waist deep water with the dolphin brought to you, but near the end you swim out to a spot in the lagoon. The dolphin swims over to you. You hold the dolphins dorsal and pectoral fin and the dolphin gives you a ride back to the group. It doesn't sound like that happens at Epcot.

As PP said. If you want to swim with dolphins, Discovery Cove is the way to go. Also, we stayed at the Springhill Suites across from Sea World and Discovery Cove and were very pleased with this hotel. Great price, good clean room, good hotel amenities, and very helpful and courteous staff. Highly recommended budget/moderate hotel.

If this is a "once in a life time" dolphin encounter, then definitely do Discovery Cove.
