Ok, so mine is really long becuse I have my point of view and his point of view:

Me:
The morning of August 17th I woke up to find Steven in the bathroom getting sick. He assured me he was fine but I suggested that we postpone the hike he had planned to take me on that day. He insisted we go so we got ready and headed towards Stratton Mountain. The entire short drive to the mountain I tried to get Steve to reconsider, he looked awful! He was pale white and looked ready to pass out. He continued to insist and said he felt fine, so I agreed to attempt the hike. Now, if you know me, you know that when I was young (and in shape, lol) I loved the outdoors and enjoyed hiking, however, now that I am significantly older and waaay out of shape hiking is not really a common activity for me. Steve seemed adamant that this hike would be worth it as there was a gorgeous view from a lookout tower at the end of the trail. After a slow start due to a change in the location of the head of the trail, we trudged on with Steve practically dragging me as I expected to bust a lung any second. I exclaimed several times that there better be a big cookie at the end of this trail! If I only knew! Steve ran up ahead at one point and then rushed back to me telling me I was almost there...yeah, right! Sure didn't feel like it. Though I think the hike up only took about 30 minutes at most it felt like days. Once we were at the top and out of the safety and security of the dense trees we realized it was actually quite windy. I took one look at that lookout tower and said, "I don't think so!" but he really wanted me to see it, so despite the little voice in my head reminding me of my fear of heights and the fact that the tower was slightly swaying side to side I headed, ever so slowly, up the stairway. There are, I think, 4 sets of stairs with 10-12 steps each. At the third landing I lost it and burst out crying from fear. Poor Steve didn't know what to do, he slowly and carefully lead me back down the stairs and sat me on a bench. He held me tight and gave me kisses and said we would see it another time and then like he had been bitten he jumped up and said, "I am gonna go look at that map". Surprised but too shocked to be suspicious, I watched as he sauntered over to the map and then dug around in his pocket where he took out his camera. He turned the thing on and then proceeded to take a bunch of pictures of me as I sat there confused and bewildered. He had me pose, asked me to take my hair down, like he likes it and made me pose with a flower I had picked on the trail. After the photo session he came over and knelt down on one knee in front of me and took my hands in his. I looked at him and said, "are you ok?" and he sort of laughed and nodded. He took a big sigh and as I looked at him with a puzzled expression he said something along the lines of this:
"I love you, you make me so happy and even though we drive each other crazy I can't see myself with anyone else but you Will you marry me?"
Somewhere around ‘even though we drive each other crazy’ I realized, hey...there’s something fishy going on here. As he asked me to marry him he pulled a beautiful diamond ring from the pouch of his camera bag and slipped it onto my finger. I cried a little bit and then we took a picture to commemorate the moment. The entire time we were up there no one was around but moments after he proposed several other people came up the trail- nothing like good timing! The hike back was considerably easier, and even though the scary part was over for Steve he was still in shock, lol, we both were. It's been several months and I still can't believe how lucky I am to have found him and that I get to marry him. The proposal was beyond perfect and more than I ever could have hoped for. The picture you see here is the one we took right after he asked me...and we still have that flower!

Him:
One windy day in early fall, on the morning of August 17th I woke up with the thoughts that I would restart a whole new life with the one companion I knew would truly be on and by my side the rest of my living days. After several failed attempts to express my wishes at various family gatherings as well as romantic lifetime spots I realized over time that if I didn’t get my life with my girlfriend secured that I would either go crazy or give myself a heart attack in the process. I initially attempted to give my symbol of love at two romantic dinner evenings, however the overall mood wasn’t right and it seemed cliché. I attempted the speech in my head so many times while doing various things that it was almost a programmed response by the time I finally was able to give the sermon to my better half. I was extremely nervous and on edge even when the final experience occurred, however I didn’t want to freeze or forget what I had practiced.
The morning initially started with me feeling fine and ready to go, however once I collected my things and literally placed the ring in my bags, I started getting nervous realizing what was about to happen and worrying about if it would be a success. Once Holly awoke the pressure of the day’s goal fully set in, and my body proceeded to throw itself into a tailspin. I ended up emptying my stomach over a twenty minute time frame hoping that it would be one less thing to make me feel nervous. Upon viewing my questionable state Holly asked if we should postpone our day’s pre-planned hiking adventure. I kept my rational mindset and insisted that we proceed to enjoy what little time we had left of the weekend.
The car got packed mainly by Holly since I was working hard enough to keep my body vertical. We arrived at the mountain and proceeded to ride up the windy gondola; upon exiting the ride the wind was fairly fierce as we headed towards the deserted tamarack lift top & entrance number one for our trek towards the fire tower. Holly quickly realized that the trail we were on was no longer maintained, and I started to panic even more wondering if they closed down the fire tower trail to just hikers. As we returned to the top of the gondola I inquired about the trail in question, and was told of a better and easier trail on the other side of the tree line. It had been several years since I had attempted the hike to the tower and was glad to find that the new trail was much more hiker friendly.
It was just short of eleven o’clock when we arrived at the entrance of the Fire Trail. Holly questioned if we should attempt the feat since we had to leave the mountain by noon to head to an appointment. I assured her that it would be a fun ‘walk’. She jokingly asked if there would be a cookie at the end of the trail, and I said smirking perhaps. We started the hike and noticed few other visitors since it was a rather windy day. Even though the temperatures were rather mild given that time of year, the wind had obviously deterred people. I ran ahead several times to check the distance left, and to loosen my body from the combination of feelings it was giving me of extreme excitement, nervousness, and happiness at the same time.
About half way to the fire tower we started running across other day hikers that were heading out of the area which was a very good sign for us. As we finally made the final turns to the monument I turned around to see Holly’s face light up with excitement then shock when she finally viewed what the trek had been made for. Once we arrived at the base area of the tower, Holly and I waited for a few hikers to return to the bottom since the actual metal tower can only hold three people at once for safety. Once we started climbing up Holly got extremely frightened due to the high winds hitting the tower. I mentioned to her that we were in a stable environment, however given the weather conditions and her obvious fear; I figured we wouldn’t make the top. I returned her to the bottom and then went up for a few seconds myself to see the view. The day was very clear however the winds were roaring through the small enclosed space. I came back down after no more than two minutes in the tower and while heading down the several flights of stairs I noticed that besides the guides in the snack about two hundred feet to the side that we were the only people at the base. My plans were finally ready for execution.
As my chance had finally presented itself I got out my camera, and gave Holly a flower to put in her hair (which we still have in our freezer) and started taking pictures of her, which very quickly scared her since I’ve never done it before so she was very confused as to my intentions. She did look very stunning in the mini-photo shoot I had swiftly created. I tried to make my initial body movements very hard to read, I kneeled down and took her hands and started my very rehearsed speech, breathing hard and kissing her between each phrase. I began slowly and said, “I love you more than anyone else on this earth. You mean the world to me, and I’m honored to have you in my life. You drive me crazy, but you also make me happy, and I wouldn’t have it any other way. Will you marry me Holly Ann Krehel?” It wasn’t until I was about halfway through that she started to realize what was actually happening. Once she started clueing in on the moment she peered down and realized that I was on one knee. I finished my words, and removed her ring from the camera bag and placed it on her finger. She went from speechless to ecstatic instantly.
The timing was very fortunate as shortly after I finished our private ceremony people once again started arriving. We quickly got up and proceeded to return to the top of the mountain for our descent back down the mountain. I was fairly emotional on the way back to the gondola simply due to all the built up body stress I caused myself over the time period I had the ring in my possession without actually giving it her. It was a great day that I will always remember, and I’m happy to report that both of us walked away from the day’s events with smiles on our faces, having made each other’s wishes & dreams turn into a reality.

My in-laws had a week-long family gathering/vacation planned with siblings, aunts, grandmothers, etc., who all flew in. I absolutely adore her entire family, and had gotten to be friends with them all during our years of dating. We were all at my in-laws' house -- really nice, on a lake, multi-level deck, outdoor fireplace -- having a great time (a week with these people is like living in a sitcom, they're hilarious). At one point someone produced a deck of cards and they had me doing some magic tricks. My wife (then my GF) volunteered for one of my tricks. I handed her a deck of cards, she rifled through them, picked one out, showed it to everyone in the room, and put it back in the deck. I asked her to shuffle the deck then try to find her card. After being unable to locate her card in the deck I asked her to go take a look by the fireplace, which was clear across the room, somewhere I hadn't been near all day. On the mantle she found a card and turned it over. It was her card, the queen of hearts, and written on it were the words "turn around". When she turned around I was right there and said something to the effect, "You've found your queen of hearts and I've found mine (taking her hand and kneeling)." I said some other stuff (like "I want us to grow old together", etc), and down on one kneem, ring in hand, I proposed.

The scariest part of the whole thing for me was when I told my wife (then girlfriend) to go check by the fireplace, because at that moment her mother jumped out of her seat and started making a bee-line to the fireplace mantle. I flashed her a look that I think got he message across, "Don't you dare!", and she promptly sat back down. In her mind she was simply witnessing an amazing trick, she had no clue that she was about to witness her daughter's marriage proposal. The only person who had a knew was my father-in-law, because I asked for his blessing the previous night.
