Proper pet etiquette

We will be staying at a hotel (RPR) for the first time, since we got our "four legged" baby girl. We were surprised to see that there is so few nice hotels who accept pets. Guess we never had a reason to look before. We have been limiting our trips to places where we could stay in our R.V. I think Loews Hotels are the greatest, for allowing us to bring her.

Now to my question: What do you do with your pets, while you are in the parks? Our "baby girl" has a crate, but wasn't happy in it when we were house breaking her. She hasn't used it in a long time. We will bring it if we must, but I've already told her Daddy that I'll have to go on ahead, and make him stay back to put her in. Mommy, can't stand the crying. I'd end up staying with her in the room all day. Can you tell she's spoiled? Is the crate our only option? We definitely don't want to break any rules. If they're kind enough to welcome her, we want to show our appreciation by respecting their wishes. Any opinions on this, or any other "pets in hotels" pointers would be greatly appreciated. I wouldn't worry as much about the crying "baby" as I would the annoyed guest. I will be angry if I paid $255 a night and someone's dog is next door crying all day and night.

Don't get me wrong...I LOVE animals and have two dogs. I know that if we left our dogs in a strange place, especially in a crate when they were not use to it, they would go crazy, cry, bark and probably destroy the doors to the room. I just don't think people should bring their pets if they are not sure the pet will do fine without them.

Her doing fine without us is not my concern. She is left home by herself everyday, except in Summer months, while DH and I go to work, and son goes to school. She also does fine in the R.V., while we are out. She's very easy going. When I go to work, she's laying on the bed, and when I return 2 1/2 hrs later, she's still there. The only time she ever barks, is if she thinks there is an immediate threat to one of us, then quickly stops when she finds out we're fine. She is a Mini-Pin, and we constantly get comments from other campers about how friendly and well behaved she is. The only concern I have is with the crate. If Loews doesn't have a problem with her staying in the room, or even the bathroom, she will be fine. By the way, her cries are more like whimpers, the kind that breaks a Mommies heart.

I know what you mean about the "heart breaking" cries.

My Jack Russell gets time out in our pantry and try as I might, I always end up letting her out befor her "time" is up. She actually does better in the pantry than a crate. In the cage, she will work until she can no longer stand up...just trying to escape. We can't leave her in it for fear she will kill herself. She did fine as a puppy and into adulthood, until we moved. Ever since then, she has to sleep with a person, usually my son unless he is gone.

My dogs also do well at home when we are out, but I cannot see that in a hotel. For one, hotels are noisy and they would be trying to get to the action.

I also have a mini-pin. She and her "sister" (a beagle) share a kennel to sleep in every night. I raised them to sleep in it at night so they would not tear up the house while we were asleep. Yes, that was an issue at one time. My mini-pin absolutely loves her kennel and sometimes begs me to open the door just so she can get inside it and lay on her blankets and take a short nap!
I would not worry about how your pup will react to the kennel so much as how she will react to a strange, new environment. I have not taken my dogs on vacation yet b/c I am worried they will not handle it well. And DH doesn't think it is a good idea to bring them anyway.
Let me know how your pup does. I am curious, b/c I may give in and take mine one year afterall!

i wouldnt put her in a crate. ( atleast wouldnt put MY "children" in one ) if she is used to being left with the run of the house, then why not make her comfy?? isnt that what the program is about anyway? we travel with our 3 girls (Sassy 7, Oreo 5, and Pooh 2) all the time without any trouble. we havent ever stayed at a lowes hotel with them, but we stay at La Quinta atleast 100 times a year for buisness ( they go everywhere with us unless we are flying) we just leave thier toys, a treat, the TV on, and tell them if they are good girls then we will bring them back a hamburger. we have never had any problems.

my point is let the child sleep on the bed, eat treats and enjoy herself!! this is her vacation too!! as long as you guys dont freak out, then she wont either.

When we take our two pups to Universal, we put them
in the Universal kennels when we are at the parks.
After we are done for the day we pick them up and
bring them back to the room with us. I know that some
people bring a baby gate and put in the the doorway of
the bathroom. That way the dog is in the bathroom, but
feels better because her/she can see out (because the
bathroom door is not closed.

My cat has stayed with me at both HRH and RPR. My Mom's dog has stayed with her at RPR. I leave my cat in the bathroom while I'm away from the room. I put a sign on the bathroom door letting housekeeping know that my cat is in there and to please not let her out. I place our used towels and bath rug outside the bathroom and they always leave a supply of clean bath linens in the room.

My Mom leaves her dog in the room and puts the "Do Not Disturb" sign on the door. Hotel staff is not authorized to enter the room when the "Do Not Disturb" sign is on the door. When my Mom would want her room cleaned, she'd call Star Services and they'd send someone up ASAP. She'd take her dog for a walk while the room was being cleaned.
